How to Help Out In Your Community

Good Morning,

Need some suggestions.  I am very lucky to live in a town that has a big network of non-profits, cares about its community and wants to help.  This leaves me with a dilemma.  It’s a challange because so many of the groups are great and really make a differnce yet for me  it is about finding the right fit.  I am on the BOD for our local Community Action Agency  & part of the Womens Giving Circle which I really enjoy but I am looking to do more.  Get more involved without spreading myself to thin.  So today Top of my To Do List is research.  I will be looking into a few local groups that may work.
Women Build  , Gale House , Anna Purna’s Kitchen   Wondering how do you give back?  Share your thoughts and ideas with me.  Have a great day everyone!

Don’t Help Gravity – Fight It!

Hey
there,
It’s
been a busy & fun weekend – we have been all over DC, MD & VA lately
trying everything.  We
went
to Red Apron in VA. It is a wonderful little butchery not seen often in our parts & worth it!

So this is just a quick post. Yet one that for
all of us concerned about aging, sagging faces and trying to halt it in it’s
tracks. This my friends, is a friendly ALERT!
I
was watching some entertainment news show (cant remember which one) Hoda &
Kathy Lee maybe?…. Anyway right to the point

– all that texting, iPhone
searching, tablet reading, walking searching for contact numbers is causing
people to have early onset sagging jowls.  Too much
looking down people! Faces drooping faster than ever before.  So hold your phones up – heads high & fight gravity.  Once I heard this and went to txt again, it
stopped me in my tracks.  Just sayin…

What’s For Dinner & KItchen Items I Use

Helllloooooo,

Tonight it’s blackened salmon for dinner – so easy with tons of flavor and no salt.  (let me know if you want recipe) Fresh tomatoes and basil from my little garden.  Finishing with sliced mango for dessert.  Getting back on the horse after the eating frenzy we did this weekend in DC at Ben’s Chili Bowl & Comet pizza etc….  Below are some essential kitchen items we use on a regular basis.  Oh and later some details on our trip to small beach town of Chincoteague.  What a really cute little island.  Thanks to polyvore for being such a cool fun site to use.  Just started with it the other day and it’s addictive.

At Home Spa Night

Spa Night’s

Honey Yogurt Facial
Cleanser

Everyone loves summer and the
sun but, let’s face it, it plays havoc on our skin. The skin on our face is
especially delicate and sensitive and over exposure to the sun, sweat and wind
can age us prematurely. This spa recipe for all natural Honey Yogurt Facial
Cleanser
will help keep your skin looking fresh and smooth.
Yogurt contains lactic acid
which is well known to sooth and soften the skin and stimulate collagen
production. Honey is a natural moisturizer as well as contains antibacterial
properties and vitamin E is essential for healing. If you have oily skin, the
lemon juice will help remove the oil.
1 cup full fat yogurt
3 tbsp organic honey
1 vitamin E capsule
1 tsp lemon juice (optional
if you have oily skin)

Place yogurt and honey and
optional lemon juice in a bowl.  Pierce the vitamin E capsule with a pin and
squeeze into the bowl. Mix well until thoroughly blended. Store in fridge in
air-tight container or jar.

Apply a generous amount to freshly
washed face and neck.  Massage for a few seconds and then let it rest on your
face for a few minutes. Rinse completely with luke warm water. Apply your
favorite moisturizer to your damp skin. Allow to air dry or gently pat off the
excess with a towel.

Baking Soda Blackhead Remover

This gentle, quick & inexpensive facial uses simple at home items.  The baking soda’s acid-neutralizing alkalinity and milk’s lactic acid clear out pores and lightly exfoliate.  After many, many store bought lotions etc… this seems almost too  simple to work but it does!!!!

1 tbsp baking soda
1/4 cup milk
Mix the two together and rub into blackhead prone areas using your hands or a soft makeup sponge. Rinse and repeat – delicate enough to use by the eye area as well.

At Home Exfoliate

Hi there,

As promised here is one of my at home facial secrets to reduce puffy eyes, face & cleanse.

Believe it or not I use brewed coffee grounds as a wonderful facial to get rid of puffiness and exfoliate.  It is inexpensive and works like a charm.  If have over indulged – eaten too much salt etc… and wake with a puffy face.  I brew my coffee and than use the cooled grounds as a paste on my face.  I am able to get them close to my eyes and really reduce the puffy look.  On my face i use just straight – but on my body I mix with olive oil in the shower and it acts a temporary fix for cellulite.  It is pretty messy so i usually use while I soak in a bath or sit with a towel under my chin to catch any falling grounds.  Relax for about 10 min. than gently splash off with cool water and see how great your skin looks.  It may tingle a bit but try and sit for as long as you can.  BTW I just read in Natural Living for Women, coffee grounds are antibacterial, giving your face a cleaning while you exfoliate.  So give it a try and let me know what you think…..

Summer Get together’s

Hello Dahling’s,

Been busy around here – still organizing – “Just when I thought I was out…they pull me back inGodfather 3….I’m hooked on it now.  Sold things off Craig’s list, had yard sales, Give to church & Goodwill.  My husband and I are very different however.  He’s like a band aid and just Rips It Off – gone in the trash etc…while I look, revisit things make sure I don’t want them – reminisce over items.  Oh well what’s a girl to do.  It does make me look at the way, why & how I use things.  Moving to my next topic…. Summer soiree’s.

They should be easy, fun & give you the chance to be part of the party not a slave to it.  I like a beautiful rustic table – dish clothes as your napkins or linen’s of different colors – burlap.  Using a bench or sideboards as your drink station.  I adore groupings…. water bottles ( Perrier is a fav -love the green ).  Utensils in mason jars or galvanized buckets.  Mini candles.  I move art/pictures around so guests can see them – maybe lean by the drink station or use picture wire and hang from a tree.  Mini vignette’s.  I buy inexpensive rug’s & use as table runner’s.  Think outside the box…. Here are a few pic’s I love.  Hope it inspires you!
