DECEMBER 2017 FAVORITES

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays,

I want to share with you some of my favorite things right now as of December 2017.  Some were sent to me and others I purchased myself.  I’ll do another list middle of Dec. so here goes list one.

BOBBI BROWN EXTRA GLOW SKINCARE SET – This is a fantastic set – especially for this time of year – cold dry chapped skin…… I have always loved bobbi brown’s makeup skincare brushes books – you name it – she does it and I adore.  Her’s was the first face oil I purchased over 10 years ago – the women is on point.  This set includes the eye cream ( not greasy – does not travel into my eyes) lip balm in a lipstick tube ( thank you mess-free ) and 3rd is the illuminating moisture balm – I don’t really notice a lot of “illuminating” but it soaks right in and the scent is citrus divine, uplifting.  Grab a limited edition box one as a gift and one for your self.  Sign up for Ebates – see my link – receive 8% off (%’s changes hourly so could be more or less of cash back) Next is just an extravagant splurge but I just adore it – these are China “paper look” to go coffee cups in the TIFFANY BLUE PEOPLE!  I have to get this one for me and I know a friend who may be getting them as a Christmas gift TIFFANY BLUE FAUX PAPER COFFEE CUPS I just can’t help myself and it will come in the blue box with the ribbon etc…… Ahhhhhh I cant get over the cuteness Now for Now for some #selflove is this fantastic milk bath by HERBIVORE COCONUT MILK BATH its so lux but if you follow me you know I live for my bath’s and this does not disappoint – I may have to figure out how to make this myself though at $32.00 for 16 oz – it doesn’t come with a scoop so I use a little teaspoon and shovel under the hot water – my skin is so silky smooth and yummy smelling I highly recommend this!

Next on the list is this little baby I bought off amazon – everyone is talking and selling HYALURONIC ACID – it helps your skin to retain moisture – however, I find this one is just as effective as the pricey dept. store brands  AMAZON hyaluronic acid by EveHansen  Onto clothing – any and all jeans from Express right now – torn – girlfriend, boyfriend, slim fit, flare all and great prices I bought 3 and got one free! EXPRESS WOMEN’S JEANS – ALL OF THEM! OGX baby – this smells just like Christmas –   OGX BEAUTY SPARKLING CIDER SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER W/ KANDEE JOHNSON I just wish it came in a candle with the sparkling cider scent – I love their products and this collaboration with Kandee Johnson rocks – go grab one for your self.  Tons to choose from in the product line if your hair needs are different – the hair oils really work too and great for dry winter hair.  Now I got this over a month ago and I am still in love – yes I love my vacuum.  We went all out and Mike got me the Miele top of the line canister vacuum.  We had loads of hardwood, shag and a Newfoundland dog.  I vacuum and sweep a couple times a week.  The attachments are great – it’s so quiet and powerful – if you are in the market – I’d choose this one again hands down over and over!  With the holidays and company stopping over I use it even more – great on the baseboards too.

All right gang just finished my little white Christmas Tree – getting ready for Mike to come home tomorrow to celebrate his bday so that means I am off to take my bath and tonight it is Epsom salt and baking soda – with a little of the cocnut milk bath – great detox – along with sipping on some “ballerina tea” (if you follow me on Insta you know what it is – hint look for the Hustle mug last week – LOL )

Finally, we arrived in Parma and will be here for 3 nights at the lovely Villino di Porporano.com  I just adored this part of Italy – our hostess Elena Maria Ciotti remodeled top to bottom a lovely old farmhouse.  I will say on a side note ** it took a bit to find it.  It is set in the middle of a small area just outside Parma city limits next to a cluster of apartments – you’d never guess the beauty awaiting you.  So when I stepped through the gates felt as though I was transported to another time.

Italy In The Fall

Ciao Bella,

We are back home – YEAH – from a long 2 week trip to Northern Italy.  The jet lag has set in but on the way to “normal” soon.  This exceptional trip was years in the making for Mike and I.  I’m exhausted, invigorated, inspired, 10 pounds heavier, richer in love and life together.   Corny, but it is true.  We remembered what it was like to be kind and polite to one another to dress for dinner to take our time eating, drinking and breathing in the food, people, and experience.  Learning that we still are best friends and there is no one I’d rather travel the world with.

I will break the trip into a few posts and go from there – working on some videos/photo edits so these first ones are pretty raw.  Mike and I did some really great off the beat and path things.  We had the best food and fantastic tours (see Maria Giovanna) for the best help in your Italy trip  http://www.sharingmyitaly.blog   very personalized and she has been to almost every place in Italy you can imagine being native Italian herself is the perfect “tour/trip planning guide”.  Also, check out my Instagram you will see a some great candid shots and a major surprise at the end of the trip in Milan.  Lets just say my Mike really outdid himself “how you say……..Dolce & Gabbana? ”  http://www.dolcegabbna.com

We flew Lufthansa Business class for the first time – you actually get to lay back on the plane – your own little pod of sorts.  We were so excited for this!  I will be writing full review on our Lufthansa expereince seperately – pretty pricey – is it worth the money?????? Check back to see.

First to catch up ……. I PACKED WAAAAAAYYYYYYY TO MUCH!  (note to self: need to work on travel organization) I think I did ok considering we were in 6 hotels in 12 days and I had no idea what kind of attire I may need!  Landing in Venice and only having one night we lucked out and killed two birds with one stone.  I recommend doing this no matter whats on your trip.  When arriving at the airport we got a private water taxi/tour to our hotel which included the Grand Canal.  Maria booked us with Venice Quality Transfer – this was a full assisted transfer via Canal Grande to the Bauer Palladio .  Here we found our assistant with a sign saying TAURASO – Venice Quality Transfers.  He walked with us to the lagoon, embark with you in a private water taxi and take you to your hotel.   During the trip on arrival, he was happy to help you with any information that you may need. As you traveled down the Grand Canal he pointed out places of interest and some local facts.  Our guide spoke wonderful English so it was a breeze.  Note everyone says it’s just over there when giving directions…… its not – just saying so keep your phone charged and use google maps – lifesaver! This is the main waterway through the gorgeous island town.  It is very picturesque and more than what I could have imagined.  People will say to you its too “touristy” but I just adored it especially for my first glimpse of the famous romantic country of Italy.  “ITALIA”  as Mike likes to yell out to me!

Mike trying on the gondola hats…….. dare I say he looks a wee bit like his dad?  Si!  Only to be fair we’d been traveling for almost a day not the best pic of him and lots of Vino had been had at this point!  But come on that hat!  LOL

See that smile on my face – yes we hit PRADA!  Got my first item!  Stunning boots and iconic black sunglasses – note the store in Venice was much nicer and friendly than in Milan.  Customer service issue everywhere I guess.  I won’t spend my hard earned money at some place where service is rude no matter what designer you are!  #venicepradarocks

The evenings are just so romantic – the architecture, the hidden alleys, maybe steal a kiss or two!  There are so many churches and ornate buildings  – sometimes its hard to wrap my head around the amount of detail and hard work it went into making these huge jewels of architecture.

Dinner was at a local gem hidden down a long canal alley – * note you can get lost in Venice very quickly……  our first pasta in Italy – did not disappoint. http://www.antichecarampane.com it did not look quite like the pictures on the website but was filling and great service just the same.

We were only in Venice for 1 /1/2 days I really wanted at least another day.  Just getting the feel and its such a stunning city only got a small taste of it.  Would go back for sure.  We had to get our car at 2 pm.  I won’t bore you with the crazy frantic details just know took us 4 hours to get the car and the car rental places shut down by 12 noon on Saturdays……. what the heck?  Who knew?  It worked out and Mike and I had our first taste of travel stress handling it with lots of laughs.  Now hold onto your passport this trip is a whirlwind it is going to be 6 different hotels in 12 days – hope I can keep up.

CIAO – now off to Parma!

FRONT ROW BEAUTY @SAKS TYSONS CORNER

This event was to showcase Fall Beauty Trends right on the heels of NYFW and they did not disappoint!   They had beauty experts there, yummy treats, red carpet, live models, Giveaways Galore and you got to see and try things first hand before all the masses did.  I came away with brand/logo tee shirts, water bottles, samples from all the prestigious lines, new mascara, full-size products and …..wait for it………..a 2 hours Master Class appointment with DIOR national makeup artist Ricky Wilson!  I get to be the model up front! Whaaaaat – can he work his magic on me and make me look like Sharon Stone?  Be sure to check my Instagram/ Instastories for live updates on Friday!  lori tauraso, blank slate, saks fifth avenue, saks beauty, saks front row beauty, saks tysons, va, dmv, beauty event, blogger, dior, ysl, laura mercer, shopping, nyc, fall trends,

A woman actually won a spa day (they have a private spa room if you did not know) for her self and 5 of her friends!!!!!!! I mean I wanted that big time.  Can I say that?  loriannmd, blankslate, urablankslate, blankslate, lori tauraso, blank slate, saks fifth avenue, saks beauty, saks front row beauty, saks tysons corner, va, chanel beauty, fall nyfw, nyfw, cosmetics, front row, dmv, beauty event, blogger, dior, ysl, laura mercer, shopping, , fall trends,Chanel came out with its first new perfume in over 15 years “GABRIELLE CHANEL” – Gabrielle was CoCo Chanel’s birth name.  How clever right?  The bottle is stunning a little gem for your counter on its own and the floral scent is composed of orange blossom, Ylang-Ylang, Grasse tuberose, and jasmine.   I really liked it and I am super picky with my scents.  The Chanel counter manager there was fantastic – she came with tons of energy, stunning makeup and mascara samples along with info sheet.  I am so excited to get my hands on the Le Lift Sleep Mask.  If I wake with her skin – I’m in!  This little baby is coming with me to use on the plane ride to Italy.  It stimulates the production of youth proteins (um yes tell me more……), melts into the skin plumping, smoothing and you wake with a luminous glow!  Face, neck and decollete.  #travelmust

Kiehl’s came to the table with some great new face masques ( ya know I had to get one).   I also grabbed the iconic lip balm – I keep one everywhere folks.  In my car, purse, desk etc.  It works great on the cuticle as well or even on rough elbows in a pinch and when my kids were babies as a nice safe balm on chapped winter cheeks. loriannmd, blankslate, urablankslate, blankslate, lori tauraso, blank slate, saks fifth avenue, saks beauty, saks front row beauty, saks tysons corner, va, chanel beauty, fall nyfw, nyfw, cosmetics, front row, dmv, beauty event, blogger, dior, ysl, laura mercer, shopping, nyc, fall trends,

Dior has the new Super Booster One Serum that we all were lucky enough to get lovely samples of and I won a Dior Addict Lip Maximizer (cult fave)!  YES!    I also got to see first-hand the new 12-hour wear lip matte – It last ladies – I sampled some and it stayed on perfectly for my day with lots of eating, drinking, talking and it was still put before my shower!  The shades are to die for too – not drying but a soft matte lip.loriannmd, blankslate, urablankslate, blankslate, lori tauraso, blank slate, saks fifth avenue, saks beauty, saks front row beauty, saks tysons corner, va, chanel beauty, fall nyfw, nyfw, cosmetics, front row, dmv, beauty event, blogger, dior, ysl, laura mercer, shopping, nyc, fall trends, dior, sisley, sisley paris usa, ysl, le mer, lori tauraso

You only have a few more days of their Beauty Event and if you use your Saks Card (I got one for these type of events especially) the more you spend the more you save in points and real gift cards to use anywhere in the store.   A Little thing I have learned with these upscale department stores is that their store credit cards are really worth having.  They come with lots of real perks.  Shopping days, VIP events, free samples, free shipping and the points add up.  So I like to use them for luxury purchases because when does that stuff go on sale?  I just make sure to pay off at the end of the month.

I know they will be having a Holiday Trend Event as well so be on the lookout for that!  Holiday gift sets are the best every year I will post on Social Media so watch for and follow #saksfrontrow #saksbeauty #urablankslate #loriannmd and If you want an invite to attend or updates let me know #getonthelist

Well gotta run – I get to meet Ricky Wilson of Dior today than date night with my big guy.  Go to Ricky’s Instagram @rickywilsonbeauty to see his work and be on the lookout for photos, vlogs, blog posts and what I learned from the “Master Class”.

NEW IN MY CLOSET & WHATS COMING TO ITALY

Fall is Just about here so It has been out with the old and in with the new for my closet,

I have been tough on closet updates – getting rid of things and donating a lot.  I mean piles of clothes.  Piles! What do I do with my things…….I am really fond of Woman to Woman Mentoring is located here in my hometown and I really believe in the whole program.  I’d love for you to check out their site and if you have things to donate consider their program.  I really am a big advocate for women and women getting the chance to make life improvements, helping mothers, young and single especially and I have donated so many things to this cause.  Restaurant gift cards, tee shirts, wine books as well as a much loved FENDI black patent handbag to their main fundraiser “clutch for a cause” a coach bag, workwear attire and shoes.  Some with tags on, never worn or worn only one time.  Sweaters, skirts, dresses you name it – it went.  The other spot that has my things would be Plato’s Closet.  You get a quick turnaround of cash in hand – not the best return on investment but quickly done outta closet on to the next task.  Geared more towards younger generation so only a few of my things were accepted.  My never worn Loft Jacket and White House Black Market stuff outta age range. (ouch)

With this type of clean, comes some fun.  Below you will see what I purchased for my wardrobe.  I aspire to have a more organized approach with complete office/dinner/and date looks.   I work from home most days – yoga wear is the norm.  (that’s a whole different blog post, right?) so I am focusing on neutrals and will be using these things on our trip to ITALY in less than a month.  So stuff needs to travel well, be comfy, warm and cooooooool!  This is the beginning of what is coming with me!

The dress you see above is in black and the check top in Navy (my color the past for years for clothes and home decor) My inspo was this look here as you see below.  I can wear the pieces together as she did so well below yet will also be great as separates for a date night of white truffles in Alba and the check button up with jeans for sight seeing.  loriannmd, urablankslate, blankslate, frederik, dmv, nyfw, what to pack, italy trip, travel, blogger, blogger, tumi, nordstrom, shop style collective, I love the red but felt I’d get more wear from the dark one and have my black booties as well.  I think a good dupe!  I recently saved and treated myself to luxury Dior booties and with a more budget friendly version for this trip I bought the ones above more of that “sock boot” everyone is wearing this fall.  Next is this inspo pic white shirt and jeans…..easy right?  I will trade out the tie laces in the shirt above(BTW – for a fantastic price) that I got with some black silk ribbon or maybe even my DIOR ribbon that came in my boot box if it fits!  The green moss boots are so nice and a great change of pace.  This is an easy outfit to take from day to night anywhere.  I am also getting the black backpack for this trip.  I can put my smaller Gucci inside maybe or just have something a bit easier than lugging a tote for my camera, snack, note pads, bandaids etc. Topping with the black trench coat.  I will have layers for weather changes along the way.  It’s classic and a no brainer and Need a new one B – A – D – bad.
loriannmd, nordstrom , shop style collective, blank slate, urablankslate, nyfw, shopping, italy, travel, style, packing, suitcase, trends,
I think I am making good progress will have my black FREDDY Leggin’s (best in the world for your butt!  I swear) and of course and a faux wet look black leggings that I can dress up or down mostly I’m sure I will be walking around in the new black NIKE Air Max tennis shoes.  The leggings will go with most of the tops I’m bringing along so that makes it easy.
I’m off today to get a few more mini travel sizes pieces of my favorite makeup & skin care samples also to get Abe’s dog sitter finalized.  Call me crazy but I WILL BE FACE TIMING my pup!  Take some more photos at the restaurant for new hometown publication and enjoying this great fall weather.  Maybe get on that bike of mine again – need my 10k steps too.  Didn’t make it yesterday only 8500. Ugggggggg
Comment below and let me know what you think I need to pack for this first lifetime trip to Northern Italy!  I’d love to get some more advice.  I want to have it all finalized middle of next week.  I think I’ll take photos of have I can mix and match outfits and bring along so I don’t get overwhelmed – doing the same for Mike as well.

DO YOU HAVE PUFFY EYES? A SKIN QUIZ FOR YOU – FOCUS IS ON THE EYE AREA

Question:  Do you have puffy eyes?  Dark circles, itchy watery eyes, redness, wrinkles, sagging?  Well keep reading my dear.

lori tauraso, loriannmd, blankslate, urablankslate, dmv, frederick, md, blogger, mike tauraso, the tasting room, restaurant, travel, makeup artist, They say the eyes are the windows to the soul; well this statement rings pretty ture.  It comes from a more medical standpoint however – because the eyes are literally the window to what is going on inside the body at all times.  If you are blessed with youth and spectacular health you are, I’m sure, bright eyed, bushy tailed  and the skin aournd your eyes are toned and even colored with a twinkle in those peepers.  However, for most of us the above is no longer the case.

Everything affects your eye area!  All of your internal organs are reflected in them……  Do you have any of these issues/sysmptoms?

Liver problems = yellow eyes

Lymph drainage system = puffy, dark circles

General mild illness = dull/lack luster

On medicine esp anitbiotics or being overly medicated = discoloured, puiffy, dull, hehydrated

Smoker = dehydrated and grey

Lack of sleep or too much = puffy, dark circles grey “tired eyes”

Poor diet, too much salt caffeine and alcohol – puffy, dak circles and dehydrated

Sun damage/ageing = wrinkles and dehydrated.

So bascially if you are unhealthy interanlly, any topical cream would have to be magic to fix the above issues.  If you have any of these issues and they have come on suddenly and don’t go away I would also think of getting a full lab work up from your doctor if it has been awhile just to make sure nothing serious is going on.  That being said……when looking for cosmetic solution NO cream is a permanent ‘fix’.

As far as products go I like use gel moisturizer all over even the orbital area and a separate eye cream for a number of reasons but mainly because I am extremely prone to puffy eyelids and really dark circles.  Both of these issues are genetic, both nothing I can do anything about (excluding surgery for the lids) which maybe in a few years will be on the table.  Now I do know some things make it much worse and heavier formulations found in most moisturizers are a big one. I like thin serums and dedicated products for eyes for that reason.

  • Do NOT use mineral oil around your eye area – don’t use it anywhere – but especially the eye area – you’ll be puffy like never before – it basically suffocates the skin
  • Don’t be tempted to use more than the advised amount – its unnecessary, could cause irritation and waste your money
  • If you have eczema or psoriasis in the eye area – which is very common – you can use thicker creams on the lids as you’ll need them – depending on the severity of your condition they should probably be prescribed by your doctor – although you may find a nice organic balm somewhere – no beauty house should claim to treat those problems
  • Do use only the lightest of serums on the eyelids for the same reason as the mineral oil – puffiness
  • Keep it simple – too much fragrance in a product can really irritate the eye area – your eye cream does not need to smell – of anything
  • Most allergies to eye products and eyeshadows/mineral makeup are caused by an ingredient called Bismuth Oxychloride. It is used to give the shimmer/light reflective ‘glow’ and is one of the biggest allergens I have witnessed in the industry. If you’ve previously never been able to use a particular eye cream or eyeshadow and had it blamed on ‘your eyes’ by a brand – check their ingrediant list. You’ll probably see it on there. If you can’t use mineral makeup because it itches – you need to use a brand that openly says ‘no bismuth oxychloride’ when they are talking to you.

Also diet changes can be your great remedy or medicine.  Stop smoking if you do, cut back on coffee/tea/sodas (sugar is such a skin killer-aging magnet).  Sleep with your head elevated.  Be gentle with your eye skin area its thin and delicate no tugging.  Wear sunglasses big dark glasses a’la Jackie O’.  If possible, tint your car windows as dark as legally possible.  This will help prevent glare, age spots and squinting as much.  Sometimes you can get a note from your doctor.  Next drink lots of water.  If you can invest in clarasonic OPAL.lori tauraso, loriannmd, mike tauraso, frederick, dmv, blogger, wordpress, makeup artist, anti aging, healthy living, spa, travel writer, real reviews, reviews, downtown frederick, ultra, nyc, nyfw, dcfw, nordstrom marriott, I have been using it for years around my eyes and mouth.  Helps with removing fluid and will get your skin ready for product.  As you may know I recently started using the NUFACE with eye / lip prong tool as well.  So far so good.  The opal is where I would start and the price point a lot better as well.  However on recent searches it is sold out?????? PARSLEY – EAT PRETTY – FEEL GREAT – GIVEAWAY

Happy Saturday Everyone,

I hope you had a good week.  Myself it has been lots of up’s and downs.  We have been so crazy busy both in some good and some bad ways that stress has just been really difficult to keep at bay.  So I really try and watch my diet during these times.  I want to keep on track and use my food as medicine not just to fill me up or fill a void.  I used to reach for big sugary carbs, cocktails, heavy cream based foods, fried foods, pasta, sodas.  Those all said comfort to me and a quick fix.  I’d feel good for a few minutes than usually feel guilty, bloated and terrible in the morning.  This week’s stress came from all sides both personal and business.  Life happens right.  I was careful to not run for the sugar instead I have eaten mostly plant based, increased my water and kept caffeine at a minimum no alcohol either.

I have been adding one or two beauty foods a day and really noticing how my energy, mood and digestion has stayed level if not gotten better.

Today I wanted to shared how I have added PARSLEY to the roundup, why and some of the benefits it gives.  If you’re lucky enough you have some in your summer garden.  We don’t but Wegmans is nearby!  I love their produce don’t you?  One thing I have been paying attention to are anti-inflammatory foods.  (INFLAMMATORY FOODS AGE YOU FOLKS) ANTI-INFLAMMATORY=ANTI-AGING!

Parsley in an anti-inflammatory detoxifying herb that freshens breath (thanks to the chlorophyll and antibacterial properties), reduces water retention, supports liver and kidney health, and aids in blood sugar and hormone balance.  Hello lover boy – now your talking – that’s a super food to me!

Parsley, like many other fresh herbs, promotes healthy digestion by warding off bad bacteria in the gut.  (see leaky gut, clean program etc...) It stimulates the production of anti-aging glutathione in the body, protecting the mitochondria and oxygenating the blood.  Nutritionally, parsley is great source of iron, high in vitamin K1 which strengthens healthy blood vessels.  I like to add a hand full, stems and all, to my green smoothies, soups and juices for fresh, bright flavor with mega beauty perks!  So, say “I DO” to parsley and thank me later!

Make sure to comment – I am doing a giveaway!
I have a beautiful journal to give.  Similar to mine where I am starting to keep track of my food, drinks, exercise and mood.  Follow and comment on the blog for your chance to enter and win!  (US residents only for now)

EVERYDAY SKINCARE – LENGTHS I GO FOR “GOODFACE”

HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE,

This is post one in a series of posts my everyday skincare and the lengths I will go for a goodface!  I think it will be basics, face masks, scrubs, and than makeup.  I often get asked what do I do and or what I use on my skin.  I love skincare and taking care of the skin on my face is border line obsessive.  The best compliment I have gotten other than from dermatologists and Asain women (whom I think have some of the most glorious skin in the world) at my Korean spa or even young people was from my husband Mike.  Recently when he said “WOW now I understand why you do all this stuff, the time, the products, the energy you put into it because your skin really does look beautiful”.   Awe nice – he appreciates my efforts!  So I guess all the hard work is paying off.  I will preface this with some facts about me.

  • I will be 48 in a few months
  • I used to be a lifegurad and used baby oil and even tin foil under my chin to tan my face!  WTF
  • I didnt like veggies until mid 30’s or eating healthy never was of any importance my juicing consisted of Fanta Orange soda!
  • I didnt pay attention to skin on my neck and chest until few years ago (would so go back to change that if I could my hands too for that matter)
  • I use sunscreen everyday rain or shine
  • I adore glycolic acids or peels – hate popping pimples
  • I had to be on acutane for two series after my daughter was born for cistic acne some 21 years ago (controversial drug – but worked for me!)
  • I love and believe in the health and beauty benefits of sauna and steam.  I have true sauna in the house working on that steam shower next!
  • I try and eat “clean” when I can and crazy for Dr. Junger of the http://www.cleanprogram.com
  • I just got my first in a series of “coolsculpting” treatment in the tummy area that has been a real concern of mine no maatter what I did was not budgging and that was new to me – aging and skin elsticity loss etc… no cheap but really seeing results (been almost one month since first treatment) full blog post on my expeience at the end of 3 months – before and after photos too (ahhhhhh maybe)

I started working in cosmetics at 16 years old Woodward & Lothrop @Wheaton Plazza Mall.  I have been hooked on makeup since birth practically.  Being neice of Lennea Tinker a former Redskinette and model perfect 70’s / 80’s “it girl” and cousin to Linda Potter/Swago who was Miss Maryland and in the top two for Miss USA.  Cant find photo of Linda but here is Lennea in her cheerleading outfit and with my mom – both are gone now.  My mom for more than 10 years and Aunt Lennea this past January….. fond memories for sure!  I miss my mom all the time *tell you people how you feel – tell them you love them – do little things for friends and family, stop and take the time with others…….we are not promised tomorrow.  blank slate, urablankslate, loriannmd , lori tauraso, frederick md, dmv, blogger, carole ann geagley, lenta tinker, family, makeup skincare, through back Thursday Lennea Tinker, redskins, cheerleader, 1970's , urablankslte, blank slate, lori tauraso, loriannmd, family, makeup, hair,
I played with makeup always but quickly learned that if you dont have a good base aka BLANK SLATE meaning healthy skin the makeup wont look right.  I wont bore you with too many trial and errors cuz there were tons! But sunscreen came into my everyday life when I was about 27 or so.  I would keep my face outta the sun and even got teased because the skin on face and neck were several shades different.  Fly forward to turning 40 when better late than never full face neck and decolletage sunscreen applied EVERYDAY!  So USE SUNSCREEN PEOPLE NOW!

After working for Clinique I in my late 30’s I began using their 3 step morning and night and havent stopped since.  It’s my base – my holy grail.  Than anything else will work and look better.  I get it everywhere – its fantastic, afordable skincre/cosmetic line.  They really do all the testing that they say and I began using the 3step and never looked back – I grab one everytime I see a GWP or esp. the holiday boxed sets you usually get travel minis in there too!    Clinique, lori tauraso, blank slate, urablankslte, frederick md, dmv, blogger, shopping, anti aging, skincare, peels,

Morning and night I use the 3 Step – It comes in 1, 2, 3 & 4 from dry to oily skin.  The 3 works for me becauses I like major exfoliation! If I have makeup on I use the foaming rinse off cleanser first and/or take off the day makeup remover balm!  Now this isnt to say that other products dont come in the mix.  A faborite scrub either is using baking soda w/ the cleanser – it works like a dream and I go right under my eyes and all over lips and neck.  I did receive Dr. Brandt’s microdermabraison and LOVE this.  Such fine milled scrubbing granules and the smell….. not mint but something like it!  Adore.  I recently began using @frederick dermatology’s retional eye cream, verdict still out on that one.  Eyecream is something Iam always on the hunt for.  I may be getting the IPL treatment soona and they can go right under you eye area to hoepfully help with dry aging skin around there.  Skin Ceutical retexturing activator is a really good clear gel like product taht I smooth on last all over face next to exfoliate at night. (I use under eyes too even though not apporved for that- so do with warning).  Then when my skin is dry or under heavy foundation I always reach for my M Steves Rose Hip Oil  perfect face oil and I love the whole philosophy of Mally’s products.  I mean just look at her skin -um yes I’ll have what she’s having!  Check out her site and how she came to create this beautiful line of products.mally steves, rose hip oil, loriannmd, lori tauraso, frederick md, dmv, blogger, urablanksalte, blank slate, antiaging, beauty, skincare, clean program

I like to try new serums, products etc…  and recetnly received the Nuface Trinity micro current tool!  In a nutshell it is supposed to be exercise for your face.  It has gotten pretty good reviews and I understand the process of microcurrents and radio frequency working uder the skin to lift from below.  I will try it for the recommended 60 days and let you know.  It doesnt hurt one (except maybe your wallet hence waiting for good sale) and I want to use something other than the gel they provided as the vehicle to glide it on so we will see.  I’m thinking my DDMG (dramatically different moitsure getl) should do the trick.   mynuface, nuface, microcurrent, anti aging, urablankslate, blank slate, frederick md, shopping, nyc, fashion week, nyfw, facelift, frederick dermatology, cool sculpt , miami edition hotel, marriott, spa, review, travel writer, blogger,

You will see on my instagram and past posts I use coffee grinds, baking soda, any all peels out there.  I get botox about 3 times a year just a touch here and there.  Not too much but if you prevent the wrinkles from forming your ahead of the game.  I try and sleep on my back yeat alway roll to my side.  Drink lots of water, green juicesm herbal teas, cut way back on diary exercise moderatley everyday ( meaning just move your body for 30 min a day) amp up when your can.  Take some vitimins, laugh as much as possible.  Basically I just do what makes me feel good, take care of myself and be as good to others as I can.  That’s really what make someone beautiful right.  The rest is smoke and mirrors.

Later I’ll show you my current makup favorites.  Hugs enjoy hump day and check out FB, Insta Twitter for everyday updates.

PICKLING BEETS AND GARDEN VEGETABLES

As promised on the previous Jet Fuel Post – the Beet pickling recipe,

I am huge fan of pickling and health benefits of fermentation.  Several books and places for information HERE ,HERE and HERE.  We grew beets this year in our garden among a few other little beauties and besides roasting them I wanted to pickle them.  We harvested (LOL) our beautiful beets, cleaned and washed them, removing the stems and peeling.  There is such a satifaction of planting seeds – watching them grow tending and than eating what you made!  Crazy – I then pulled out my mandolin aka Mr. Danger please be careful when using this kitcehn tool  I sliced them very thin as to absorb the pickling liquid even better.  Plus they look so darn pretty that way.  Any slicing method you choose will do, maybe even thin matchstick slices that would be a good crunch.  For the pickling liquid use the recipe below.  I prefer a more vinegar, low salt version but try it out and make it you own.

***Side note:  I will even drink this after it sits for a while it becomes a “gut shot” I buy the Farmhouse:  Beet Ginger Gut Shot so this will be my DIY version.

FOUR SEASONS SPA MENU CIRCA 1985 “JET FUEL” SALAD DRESSING

Happy Weekend,

I wanted to share this little gem with you – especially during the end of summer when veggies are everywhere!  Some of you may know that my husband is a classically trained Chef/Restauranteur.  We own a few restaurnts in the suburbs of Maryland outside of DC.  Mike graduated in 1984  from the well renowned Johnson & Wales Culinary College.  One of his early jobs out of culinary school was at the prestigious Four Season Hotel in Georgetown, DC!  “Auxchamps ” Kitchen.  Where he worked under Chef Douglas McNeill so Mike is full of recipes that I pull out from him now and again.  As we move forward on our healthy food journey I am loving the grain bowls.  He actually added one to our fine dining restaurant lunch menu at  The Tasting Room.  We try and eat veggie heavy meals when we can and this is so great to do in the summer.  I was bored with my salad dressings.  During a recent talk in the kitchen I was whining that I’m bored of my salads . He was like “Hey babe – I’ll make you “JET FUEL”  “What is JET FUEL”?  He explained that in the late 80’s the Four Seasons Hotel started a spa menu for their elite guests.  The dressing used in the kitchen was called Jet Fuel.  Um yes dont hold out on me babe.spa, diet, loriannmd, blank slate, urablankslate, dmv, frederick, blogger, four seasons, spa menu, foodie, jet fuel, recipe, dinner, diet, anti aging, cooking, weight loss, instagram, chef, mason jar, meal prep, He made some up and I was in love!  I keep a jar of it handy.  It lasts for a week or more covered in the fridge.  You can tweak it a bit here and there but the premise is that you want it to be very fresh, flavorful, very little oil, and no salt.  It highlights fresh veggies and garden lettuces without overpowering them.  It is low in fat, delicious and simply good for you!

DATE NIGHT – WASHINGTON DC “SHAW DISTRICT” RESTAURANT REVIEW – NOT WHAT WE THOUGHT

Good Morning

Mike and I had another date night in DC the other day.  I have  been holding him to the mothly date night ventures to DC or Baltimore – we started this last year and was epic fail – meaning that after big promises of “date nights” by the husband we only we went two times in six motnhs!  So after a bit of “explaining the importance to me” we are back on course.  Anywho, where’d we go?  After reading one of my issues of Washingtonian Magazine we decided on the Shaw District.

Alittle info on Shaw District – DC – Shaw technically includes the sub-neighborhoods of Logan Circle, Truxton Circle, and the U Street Corridor. It is bounded by 15th St NW, Florida Ave (formerly Boundary St), North Capitol St, and M St NW.

Although it has a diverse population, Shaw is distinctive from the adjacent areas due to its African-American heritage. It is popular due to its jazz clubs, bars, high-end bars and lounges, and for the marvelous food, including Little Ethiopia.

The neighborhood, named after Civil War Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, was first developed starting in 1865 when the end of the Civil War led to a huge increase in demand for new housing in Washington, D.C. The extension of streetcar lines in the early 1900’s up 7th St and 14th St also spurred additional development.

Because Shaw was not affected by covenants that prohibited property sales to African Americans, Shaw became the center of African-American culture in Washington and was home to many black-owned businesses, entertainment venues, and other institutions. It was the birthplace of jazz great Duke Ellington, who lived on the 1200 block of T St. It was the center of Washington’s music scene and includes the historic Howard Theater (opened in 1910), Lincoln Theatre (opened in 1921), and Bohemian Caverns jazz club (opened in 1926).

Following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. in April 1968, riots broke out at the intersection of 14th St & U St. The riots resulted in significant damage to 1,200 buildings and resulted in thousands of permanent job losses. With the introduction of crack cocaine in the 1970s and 1980s and the subsequent flight of residents and businesses from the area, Shaw succumbed to urban blight. The entire neighborhood was considered to be unsafe due to rampant prostitution and drug use.

However, beginning in the early 1990s, a wave of gentrification restored the area. In 1986, the Reeves Center, a 500,000 square foot municipal office building, opened at the intersection of 14th St and U St, bringing thousands of jobs to the area. The Shaw-Howard University Metro Station opened in 1991. In 2000, a Whole Foods supermarket opened at the intersection of 14th & P Street and quickly became one of the retailer’s highest grossing stores. Between 2000 and 2002, Harrison Square, the first large scale residential development in the area in a long time, was constructed. Since then, dozens of upscale businesses have opened and thousands of apartments have been constructed. Houses at Harrison Square, which originally cost $200,000 in 2000-2002, are now selling for $900,000.

It took us about an hour to get into town – we had the first reservations at HAZEL 5:30 (yes the early bird).  Before dinner we walked around and I fell in love with Glen’s Garden Market a upscale corner market with the best staff and almost anything you could want for dinner, lunch or snacks.  Glens Garden Market DC, dmv, dinner, shaw district, blogger, travel, review, local shop, dinner,

The BBQ wagyu shrot ribs were like candy and the “Gnocchi Bokki” just was odd – kimchi pork ragu with italian flavors mixed in?  I don’t know people but I think grandma Hazel was drinking in the kitchen that night.  Teasing……..I have heard bruch is good but with all the choices we have in DC I dont think we will be back anytime soon.  I will say that I was very surprised by the server as the plates were cleared you could see we didnt finish much never they never asked if it was all going ok?  Maybe just a off night for the Hazel kitchen, you decide.

The company however was lovely, date night ended great we held hands, kissed, laughed and just enjoyed each others company.  That’s all I wanted.  kissing, date night, marriage, love, dc, dmv, blogger, urablankslate, blank slate, loriannmd, Hazel restaurant, dc, dmv, dining, date night, loriannmd, blank slate, urablankslate, blogger, dating, dinner, shaw district, road trip , zagat, foodie, review, patio, instagram, open kitchen, bar, tile floor, concrete floor tile, decor, cheers, cocktails, mock tail, love
