Yummy & Healthy Veggie Blackbean Burger

You are going to thank me later – 
these Black bean 
Veggie Burgers ROCK!

1 can Goya Black Beans
1 can Goya Great Northern Beans
1 small  onion
1 package minute rice instant rice (cooks 90 sec- great to have on hand)
Veggie Stock ( low sodium )
Red pepper flakes
Almond Flour

To begin you will  sauté diced onion, carrots, and celery.  About 3/4 cup of each.  Along with 3 to 4 sliced peeled garlic cloves – do this until just tender (not over browned).  I add jalapenos to mine as well your choice!  Set aside to cool. S&P slightly while browning – to help them sweat.  Zap 1 serving of the brown rice = 1 cup or already cooked brown rice add to mixture 

In a food processor pulse 1 can of each rinsed chickpeas and black beans only slightly – you still want a bit of a chunky texture not a 
complete puree or paste.  Then mix together you sauteed veggie mixture & the beans adding S&P to taste, 1/4 cup almond flour for binding, (more or less you decide) crushed red pepper flakes, garlic powder.  Maybe a bit of low sodium veggie stock to hold as well.   You want them to be able to form patties and hold their shape.

Form patties and chill 10 min – to one hour.  I use parchment paper so they won’t stick.  Store in tupperware with parchment sheets between for several days and remove when ready to cook.

Chilled Patties 

Next saute w/ olive oil over med heat til browned on both sides
transfer to preheated oven and cook for 15 min. at 400 degrees until heated throughout

Saute in oven proof skillet 
Finally end with some Asian slaw and roasted Brussels spouts for a healthy lunch or dinner that more than satisfies!

Had to share – HOMEMADE "KIND" BARS


Kind Bars, particularly the coconut and almond variety, are a great go to afternoon / anytime snack.  It was my daughter Chrissy who introduced me to them last year.  She and her boyfriend are in health mode so when I treid one I just fell in love with their chewy – crunchy texture & the sweet honey/coconut combo. I mean chocolate, nuts, carmel & sea salt are some of my favorite things.  They also cure my hunger which inevitably happen almost every afternoon. Ummm hello 2pm!  So after some reading and internet surfing I whipped homemade Kind Bars It was so easy. There are tons of recipes to choose from like : kelly Hunt or The Nourishing Home  Just to link a few.  

They last for several days when tucked in some tupperware or ziplock bag.  It’s a great healthy late night snack, or for travel, while running around in the car & especially great after the gym! These bars are definitely going to be new staples to have on hand in our house!  Plus they are great as gifts –

Below is one recipe that I found and it worked fairly well  – since I’m lucky enough to be married to a Chef we will be tweaking some of the recipes and share with you.  Especially in the new year when we’re really going to focus on plant-based meals.  

  1. 2 cups whole roasted unsalted almonds
  2. 2 cups unsweetened coconut flakes
  3. 1/2 cup puffed crispy brown rice cereal
  4. 1 tablespoon flax seed meal
  1. 1/2 cup honey**
  2. 1/3 cup brown rice syrup (may substitute light corn syrup)
  3. 1/4 teaspoon salt
  4. 1 teaspoon vanilla

I do most of my shopping for these things at our local Common Market


  1. Grease/spray large bowl, 9×13 baking sheet/pan, wooden spoon or rubber spatula, and bottom of drinking glass. Set aside.
  2. ————————
  3. *IF ALMONDS AREN’T ALREADY ROASTED: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spread nuts on large baking sheet and bake for 10 min. until lightly toasted and fragrant.
  4. TO TOAST THE COCONUT FLAKES: Spread coconut in single layer on baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 6-7 minutes, stirring half way through, until lightly toasted. Keep a close watch on it to avoid burning–it can go from golden to burnt quickly.

  6. Add toasted almonds & coconut to large bowl. Add puffed rice/millet and flax seed meal. Stir to combine; set aside.
  7. In 1-1/2 or 2 quart saucepan, combine honey, rice syrup, salt, and vanilla over medium-high heat. Cook, stirring frequently, until mixture reaches 260 degrees (hard ball stage) on a candy thermometer. Immediately, pour mixture over nut mixture, stir until evenly coated. Quickly transfer to greased/sprayed 9×13 pan, use hands to spread mixture evenly in pan; press the mixture to close in holes and distribute evenly all over the pan. Using bottom of greased/sprayed drinking glass to tap and compact mixture in pan. Let cool 20 minutes (pan should still be slightly warm). Invert pan on cutting board and tap until mixture falls out in one piece. Cut into 20 bars. (If they cool too much and become too hard or brittle to cut easily, put in warm oven for 1-2 minutes to soften; proceed with cutting.)
  8. Top your “kind bars” with a little  Fleur de sel.

My Green Dressing

Good Morning,

Staying healthy during the Holiday’s can be somewhat of a challenge – however if you get prepared do a little leg work prior it can be a much smoother / healthier time of year.  I love mason jars – for so many things – desserts – individual soups for parties – drinks with cute little straws of course – salad’s to go – pickling (gonna try my hand at pickling ginger this week) and for salad dressings on the fly.  I want to share with you my GREEN DRESSING – I make 2 or 3 batches a week and keep one handy all the time.  I try and load up on my veggies so I’m not as temped to dive into the “sugar fest” I call Christmas.  If you know me you know this in an on going battle throughout the year for me.  I LOVE MY SUGAR!

Few Simple Ingredients & Your Set 


*This will last for up to 2 weeks*

1 cup of cold-pressed extra-virgin olive oil 1/2 cup apple cider (organic) vinegar
1 tsp of Dijon mustard
1 tsp of honey
1 large clove garlic, crushed 
Pinch of Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
(you can also add juice of one fresh squeezed lemon as option)

Take one to work – with bag of salad (love my freezer bags too) and you have a great inexpensive lunch – add can of tuna or hard boiled egg to up your protein!

Strobing Event at Maven Beauty Bar with Mally of M Steves

Hello Ladies,
Contouring is out & strobing is in!  While I’m not entirely ready to throw out my contouring routine See previous posts (adore my Loreal Paris USA True-Match For Contouring) I’ve been curious about this growing trend. So, what is strobing? Strobing is all about creating a dewy, natural looking glow. Products are used to brighten the higher features of your face instead of carving them out like you do with contouring. Think of it as a way to keep your summer glow all year round without the bronzer.
I attended an event last night at  Maven Beauty Bar and we discussed / played with this technique. Mally of the natural skincare brand M Steves was there incorporating her fabulous serum and boots to achieve this look on all ages.  I have to tell you her anti-aging-serum is a game changer.  You see it work wonders in just minutes and continue to lift, tighten “DE-puff” you skin and was like magic in a bottle under my eyes!  So of course you know me I bought it and her almost famous RHSO Skin Booster (a cold + pressed rose hip seed oil) see her links above to get all the details but promise you will love me later for introducing you to this line.   Will be using in my arsenal for all clients, brides, mother  of the brides from now on!
As for strobing In this post I’ll be breaking down the basics and how you can achieve a fresh glow without going overboard…

Time To Shine

The idea behind strobing is to create a polished makeup look that emanates a natural radiance. That being said, your finished product should be sans glitter and all glow. Avoid products with noticeably large flakes of glitter and opt for products that ‘illuminate’ and have a touch of ‘shimmer.’

Choosing A Highlighter

Like any other makeup product you should keep your skin tone in mind when choosing a highlighter. While some highlighters come in a white, pearlescent shade, consider a colored highlighter. For fair skin, consider choosing a pinker highlight. For medium and dark skin, try choosing highlighters with coral or gold tones. If you have oily skin, try using a powdered highlighter. For drier skin types, try applying a cream highlighter. I love the Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer In All Colors For This Look.  I have about 4 of them and I use BENEFIT High Beam Liquid Highlighter  These are the few in my collection use MAC Cosmetics Eyeshadow in Shell as well & its great! For a nice look in the summer NAKED illuminator is quick & has a powder finish – sexy on your collar bone as well…….

Where To Apply

It’s best to apply highlighter to the high points of your face where sunshine naturally hits. There are seven facial features you ultimately want to be highlighting: down the bridge of your nose, the center of your forehead, your brow bones, the inner corners of your eyes, your cheekbones, the tip of your chin, and your cupid’s bow (above your upper lip).

A Little Goes A Long Way

Less is more when it comes to strobing and applying highlighter. You want to give your skin luminescence without looking overly shiny or oily. If you’re nervous, start by applying a little bit at a time, gradually leading up to your desired highlight.

Well Hello Lovelies 

Even after years a beauty guru of sorts.  Great skincare and innovations still make my little o’l heart race!  When Im not knee deep in decor, SEO for the restaurants, product reviews, photo classes or the never ending battle of home / closet organization.  I can be found hanging w/ the hubby & trying to keep up with my 4 grown kids, compiling Pinterest boards that I fill with desserts, tablescapes, fantasy vacations & healthy foods.  Yes I am quite aware of the conundrum juicing vs. my obsessive love of all things chocolate….  

I am a women of “extremes” to say the least!  HA!  Anyway – my latest love in beauty innovations & technology is the +VASERshape treatments I’ve had at Sylvana Institute in my hometown of Frederick, MD – they really do work – firm tighten – lift – reduce cellulite.
