Do You Ever Just Look At Your Life………….

Am I happy – What is Happy?  Cliche I know!

I’m very grateful, blessed my children are happy healthy, strong and independent.  I have a lovely home great friends and from the outside, it looks good.  I’m trying to have a good healthy balanced diet, back on the exercise train, lots of water, less sugar, getting more laughter in life again and lots of love for my friend’s, my children, family and myself.  Yet something is missing.  I know life goes in ebbs and flows but it just feels like I need change.

I’m not all emotional just as if I’m watching my life and not feeling connected.  Thinking of taking a road trip and trying to find that spark again.  Let my creativity soar.  It seems like a good time of year to do it.  Spring right – new beginnings.  I already have a good bit of spring cleaning done at home, work projects in the complete file so why not?  SPRING CLEAN MY LIFE!

#30 day challenge complete

Good Morning Everyone,

Happy Sunday! I hope all going well and that you enjoyed your St. Patricks Day!  Myself I laid low – tummy felt “OFF” Mike’s too – maybe from traveling?  All better now!  Que the fireworks – Today is my 30th day of my self-proclaimed workout challenge.  I DID IT!

In a nutshell, I had to do 30 min or 10K steps of some form of exercise every day for 30 days in a row.  Like Friday night- it was soooooo hard to drag myself outside but just got those steps in like 10, 022 – done.  Honestly, I could have fibbed – I mean what’s one day?  But it’s the part of making a promise to yourself – I’d know I wasn’t being honest so off I went – slow but steady and finished.  I am cutting back on some foods adding healthier options.  Sugar man – it’s my nemesis I’ve dangled the +GUCCI carrot in front of myself for those Marmot HOT PINK mules and GG Blooms Belt – working like a charm!  Tysons Corner here I come!  BTW why don’t they answer the phone there?  Called Fri. Sat. 3 -4 times each hmmmmmmmm?

Obviously, I cannot splurge on my victories like that all the time so, I will find new goal oriented motivators (Like new yoga pants – green drinks “to go” & HEY IF YOU JOIN ME MAYBE I CAN OFFER A PRIZE FOR A FEW OF YOU TOO COMMENT BELOW TO BE IN THE RUNNING) but this was a great one to start off with for sure!  HEHE  Follow my +Instagram @loriannmd to see the pure joy when I get my “PRIZE” in my hot little hands!

Now we amp it up,  I found this 21-day makeover in my recent copy of +Women’s Health with the lovely +GWYNETH PALTROW on the cover.  Actually a link below and seems fairly doable and just with my ease into it method I going for right now.

I am also a big fan of alternative ways of living/learning/growing and I came across +Eldon Taylor several years ago.  I love his programs.  I have several DVD’s, CDs etc.  I will look into the self-improvement section and order something today – please check it out when you want to make changes – your mind is a powerful tool and what do you really have to loose?

Part of my lifestyle change is to add 2/3 veggies at all meals – eat good carbs less animal meat – already pretty much there chicken 1 time a week or organic lamb now and again and a bit of Mike’s steak when we have grass fed organic prime around.  Here is dinner last night – my body was craving crunchy veggies.

Asain Style Vegetable

Asian Veggies – Cabbage, Snap Pea’s, Carrots & Ginger
Begin by julienne carrots & ginger sliced jalapenos, cabbage (I’d use Nappa next time but left over from St. Patty’s day) clean peeled snap peas and any other crucibles you have laying around.
Saute in batches – canola oil and a bit of sesame oil ginger carrots and jalapeno first – take off heat and put in a bowl – next cabbage gets color on them DO NOT COVER we don’t want stewed we want CRUNCH!  set aside you may need to do cabbage in two batches as well depending on amount and size of pan – than snap peas alone at end toss all back in hot pan with bit more of your oils add soy/tamari hot chili paste etc.  then off heat to stop cooking in shallow wide bowl (cools quicker) top with cashew or almond pieces maybe some of those Asian crispy wontons and look there? Healthy Veggie Focused Dinner! To make complete add toasted cooked Quinoa.
I am also looking into Ayurvedic cooking check out the link below to see some basics and the importance of how you combine your foods – interesting Ayurvedic-living food combinations.
BTW – the coconut cream pie did get the best of me last night! 2 TIMES!  No one’s perfect……..
Have a great day!  Chat with you this week – wordpress change should happen within next few days!  Yippie – Ciao

  1. a late morning meal eaten instead of breakfast and lunch.

Happy Sunday – Happy Brunch! AKA acceptable “A.M. DAY DRINKING” for some with out really alarming folks.

My oldest son Joe is almost 26 living in Richmond, VA doing the “millennial thing”  good job (his own corner office now to – just saying) live in girlfriend, 2 dogs, on a pool league and  Brunch is it baby!  They go out almost every Sunday downtown.  There are tons of great joints in Richmond – food trucks, ethnic restaurants and always Divine BRUNCH spots.  Sometimes he and his woman even host at home.  He still calls for some last minute recipe ideas or to get the secret ingredient’s for the BEST pancakes ever…. maybe I’ll share with you later if ya want?

Anyway, this leads me to my post – all of my kids are outta the house 3 boys and my baby girl (just 21….whaaaatttt) I still love to buy them things for the house and get them some cool clothes.  They fit so well in the chic minimalist euro looks that you’ll see below.  Don’t get me wrong – Mike & I love a good brunch and we do a killer one +The Tasting Room but it’s not my life anymore – like it is for them.   Joe told me about Manmosa’s – basically a Mimosa with shot of vodka!  (see below) Now that’s a hair of the dog.  A top shelf quality hangover cure (really just prolonging the inevitable who is he kidding).  So while your out “brunching” why not look fab – like your not even trying and not breaking the bank.  Check out these cool stuff for that spring brunch date either out or hosted at home.  DON’T FORGET THE SUNGLASSES THOUGH!

Here are the details for that manly version of a Mimosa

Manmosa Recipe

  • 1-2 ounces Stoli Orange (because these guys are not lightweights)
  • 3 ounces Blue Moon hefeweizen
  • 3 ounces champagne/sparkling wine
  • 4 ounces freshly squeezed orange juice
  • orange twist, to garnish
Combine ingredients over ice in 16 oz. glass.  Maybe throw in a sprig of mint or rosemary for some fancy floral aromas, give it a good stir & it’s off to the drinking races for you go brunch folks.
NOTE : Pace yourself or you’re going to wake up in a different time zone- these things can be dangerous.
My favorite brunch classic that never goes out of style……Eggs Benedict:
  • Melt butter in large skillet over med. heat until foaming – add Canadian Bacon slices and fry – turn occasionally until just brown.
  • Divide English muffin toasted well – I HATE UN-TOASTED MUFFIN ON MY BENNIE’S with butter in the broiler until light golden brown.
  • Place drained eggs on top of cooked Canadian Bacon add S&P than liberally spoon hollandaise all over each egg – don’t be shy with this part.  Fresh pepper on top sprinkle a bit of parsley on top and dash’s of Tabasco of course!  Now this is perfection – first breakfast I made Mike when I had the chance – been together over 18 years…. a link?  I think so.

Update On #30dayChallenge

Brrrrrrrr Come On Spring – We had a taste of it last week and I LIKE IT!

Update on my #30dayworkoutchallenge!  Going well almost at the halfway mark!  Basically just entails me doing something physical for 30 minutes for 30 days straight.   This time around however I have my +iPhone Watch and have to do min. 10,000 steps a day.  That’s five miles people……..

It has been really hard some days – ABE our Newfie pup is loving it but like yesterday as temps dropped – I cringed going outside.  I had to do the last 2k in basement on treadmill.  Seriously it was all I could do to reach that goal – some days easier than others for sure.  Like above on first nice day- I was a walking fool.  It’s especially difficult after a long day – cleaning, PR work, dog training, making dinner.  Happy to do all these things it’s just I get tired really tired.  Next week will be even busier so I need to get some good sleep.  Also make doing detox baths lots of fruit-veggies will be key – maybe sneak some acupressure in and cut back on the sugar.

Speaking of sugar…..are you addicted to sugar?

I AM!  You’re not alone. In 2007 a group of researchers found that sugar surpasses what is called “cocaine reward” in most mammals, including rats and humans. The frightening result of this study is the conclusion that sugar is more addictive than cocaine.
Although sugar does not contain opiates (like other addictive substances such as heroin) it does stimulate the release of endogenous opiates. Opiates and their receptors have largely been attributed to what is known as “reward.” When the opiate receptor is filled over and over again, we feel a sense of pleasure and reward. No matter how harmful a food or substance may be to the body, this sensation of pleasure keeps us coming back for more, while at the same time altering our brain chemistry.

Can’t kick your sugar habit? You’re not alone. Statistics show that in 1822, the average person consumed 6.3 pounds of sugar per year. However, by 1999, the average person consumed 107.7 pounds of sugar per year! In fact, Stephen Guyenet, a neuro-biologist at the University of Washington, predicts that if we continue eating sugar with as much enthusiasm as we have over the last 200 years, by the year 2606 the U.S. diet will be 100% sugar.

The mis-education about the dangers of sugar consumption is widespread.  It is in the school systems, the home, and even the medical community.

Like any addiction, change happens when we realize that we are greater than the sum of the chemicals in our body. This can be tough to swallow – especially when it comes to breaking habits and ending addiction.  Sugar as an addiction is strange concept for most of us.

So how do we beat this?  In addition to determination and discipline, here are some helpful tips.

1. Eat sour foods. The sour taste of some foods, like apple cider vinegar ACV this will naturally curb your cravings for sugar.
I mix some with warm water and drink slowly (not on empty stomach to acidic for me) in the morning.

2. I also eat fermented foods and probiotic beverages. Fermented foods are sour, easy to make- see this book art of fermentation  and they are relatively affordable.  Probiotic beverages also taste sour, and even a small dosage goes a long way.  Both are full of beneficial bacteria, which drive out disease-causing bugs that increase our desire for sugar.  I will be back to +HEX Ferments this weekend to restock!

3. Replace it with something else – set reasonable goal and reward your self (maybe you don’t find this reasonable but really respond to a good old carrot dangling (hello Gucci shoes)

or maybe a New Book or dinner out with your BFF.  My daughter Chrissy turned me onto this writer/blogger +Angela Liddon and her books “OH SHE GLOWS”  Love these books – just saying.
