Well, Hello Darlings,

I am also pushing myself on the health part of my life – trying to cut back on sugar #sugaraddictionisreal – eat a more plant-based diet – lots of naturally flavored waters and green tea – sauna almost daily and taking my supplements.  I have been tracking and noticed my mood was better and more upbeat when I take my supplements – esp my B Complex.  I searched with my friend “Google” (thank you google – xoxo) and it led me to this site EXTRA HAPPINESS about supplements and the benefits of some.  Particularly the B vitamins to boost your mood so it all sounded good to me and worth a try!

I am also crazy for this book and blog and pretty much all Becky Rapinchuk does these days.  Not only are you cleaning your home without harsh chemicals, saving money, having fun cleaning (yes really…..sometimes) but the house smells fantastic! BOOK ORGANICALLY CLEAN HOME & HER BLOG CLEANMAMA.NET it’s the best I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!

We are off to do some errands today, hit a juice bar in VA and try True Foods Kitchen – I’m sure you’ll see pics on my Instagram & Instastories so check in. A big thank you to all who commented and liked the photo the other day for the Estee Lauder Renutriv eye creme giveaway on Instagram!  I’ll be doing something like that once a month or so – so be sure to follow along on the blog and all the other jazz FB, Twitter etc.

Whats In Your Weekend Bag

Hello Thursday,

It’s almost the weekend and I’m thinking of my plans.  We are talking about heading to the water and I was like what will I pack on the fly.  Are we gonna hit the Casino on the Eastern Shore this weekend?  Hit the beach and boat – grab some oysters and watch the sunset?  Hmmmmmm so let’s prepare for all of it.  Some of these things I have already and some I’m getting NOW!  Some great sales going on now too, but act fast they are flying off the shelves.  I am still one of those people who love to go to a mall and see the items in person but I can’t beat the convenience of online shopping – can you say EbatesEBATES – sign up if you haven’t already unless you’re…… crazy!  I love them! #myguiltypleasure.  Below are some of the things in my weekender.  AKA my weekend bag.
You have to have flip flops and I love my Adidas slides but I am a sucker for the logo high-end ones.  Like Fendi above.  I treated myself to the Chanel version already and can’t get enough of them.  I mean I love the designer heels but let’s be real what am I really gonna be wearing most days……. flip flops or flats.
Then a white T-Shirt always works and white blouse for evenings – looks fab with a tan too right?  I like my white apple watch to keep track of my 10K steps and the cool factor.  The new Le Specs cat-eye glasses are “to die for”.  Plus the price is great! The white so retro right?  Next a beach bag visor/hat, of course, a bikini and some gold shimmer.  The Tom Ford cream powder duo is stunning and works great on your eyes, cheekbones and even over some clear gloss.  Add sunscreen I use CLINIQUE CITY BLOCK as a primer too instead of foundation on summer days.
I pack a candle when I travel too to “freshen up” the hotel rooms plus add a bit of romance esp if there is a big soaking tub and Diptyque is a favorite of mine.  I save the jars after the candle is done to use for makeup brush holders.
I’ll add a nice sundress for going out and dress it up or down.  If in the Casino the nude heels.  If on the beach or at a dockside restaurant – barefoot all the way.  Jeans of course cuz always jeans to dress up or down and Hudson are a favorite with the flap pocket – no pancake butt here!  Add your gloss – blush if not sunkissed already and your good to go.  I forgot to add my new obsession mascara.  Its the Giorgio Armani Eccentrico Mascara simply the best – long thick dark lashes full and lush.  Washes off easily too with foaming cleanser and remover.
I may add a summer book and download a new playlist too.  If you have any summer read recommendations comment below.  Also, go to my Instagram and I’m doing a giveaway tomorrow morning so hurry.  Like follow and comment on the Estee Lauder Renutriv eye cream to be entered to win this full-size version worth $160.

Ciao for tonight friends – I’ll touch base soon with my cleanse / workout updates and new recipes!

SUMMER WATERMELON AGUA FRESCA

FRESH QUICK EASY SUMMER DRINK TO HAVE ON HAND - WITH OR WITHOUT ALCOHOL

  • 1 cup water divided in to 1/2 cups
  • 1/3 cup sugar divided
  • 4 cups Club soda 1 liter chilled
  • lime slices for garnish

Wanna up the health part of this drink?

You can also add something cool & healthy to your plain lemon water or Agua Fresca Chia Seeds!  This makes more filling and gives you added protein.

Chia seeds are a highly nutritious “superfood” that contain fiber, protein, and Omega-3 fats, which are all very healthy to consume. When you make Chia Fresca, the fresh chia seeds become gelatinous as they soak in the liquid. You can add chia seeds to any agua fresca, simply sprinkle a scant teaspoon of them into the drink, and wait for 5 to 10 minutes. Add ice, stir, and enjoy.

Perfect for a hot day out on the patio or to kill the plain water boredom we all get from time to time.

Cheers!  Here’s to your healthy summer!

SAD

UGGGGGGGGGGG  I”VE HAVE HAD IT!

This weather is driving me nuts – the long cold freezing winter here in Maryland aka “the DMV”.  I mean it was brutal – that wind alone cut right through me.  Then we had a few nice days but bam high 80’s humid and then rain for 2 weeks straight!  Now it’s grey skies again, flash floods, hail etc (poor Ellicott City, MD again) and its got me down.  I have been battling the “blues” all winter and this is surely not helping me get over it.  I look forward to Spring like most people with the euphoria that usually comes along.  Being outside more, feeling more healthy and alive but so far it has not kicked in.  I’ve even been talking with Mike about buying a spot in Fla just to get away to in the winter.  I even have that dreaded weight gain making me sadder and my hormones are all wacky!  What is a girl to do?  (YES I SAID GIRL YES I AM 48 AND IF YOU KNOW WHAT’S GOOD FOR YOU – YOU WONT BE SNARKY ABOUT THAT! – LOL).

I don’t have my energy and it seems to grow; like one day turns into a week, then a month and I have not hit my health goals or home/work project goals either and really don’t feel much like doing anything.  I mean I forced myself to do the #30daychallenge and I did it.  (you saw the Instagram shoes as my treat right?  ) Yet after I did not keep it up.  My period aka “MY VISITOR” had been coming sooner and I cant time it like I have for 30 some years and mostly I keep thinking it this will pass and I will get my rhythm back again across the board.  Ya know to start the juices flowing again …….but I have not.

I don’t know ……….Can you relate?  I looked up Season affective disorder SAD from several places.  Do I have that too?  Do I need a light box?  Below is the mayo clinics list of symptoms:

Signs and symptoms of SAD may include:

  • Feeling depressed most of the day, nearly every day ( I’m just weepy and lethargic not super depressed – I call it the blues)
  • Losing interest in activities you once enjoyed *****(barely get my bike out)
  • Having low energy *******
  • Having problems with sleeping
  • Experiencing changes in your appetite or weight *****
  • Feeling sluggish or agitated *****
  • Having difficulty concentrating*******
  • Feeling hopeless, worthless or guilty

So I feel that it is mixed with several different things:

The long winter season, my age, hormones so I decided to be proactive.  I got a full workup of my blood using this as a guide – I have not bought anything yet but the link is  HERE

This is a sample of what I asked for getting information from many sources but loving the Suzanne Summers books I referred to her Life Extension website as well as a few HGH sites in Florida and CA that ship your shots/or supplements to the house with Dr. supervision of course.  (THIS IS NOT SPONSORED – WISH IT WAS….)

I am in talks with my doctor and Capital Women’s Care RIGHT HERE here in Frederick, MD mention my name and ask for Sarah!  This is where I got full checkup was so overdue pap, cultures, exam and received a 3D mammogram.  Fantastic technology so far things are looking good.  I am healthy, considered fit, my heart in great shape ( went to heart Dr. too) just feeling down, puffy and those Damn 10lbs!

I have a feeling this is going to be a long road and process and I’m gonna take you along with me.  I’m here to chat, swap stories, talk results, all of it.  I will share what my blood test says and what course of action I am going to take!

Let’s live the best life we can.  Here are just some of my books I’ve been reading and I will tell you what people – DIET not a diet is going to be high on my list too.

After a business trip etc. I will do a CLEAN PROGRAM elimination diet and set my gut health on track too. Click for the full program and you see I have 2 of the books – love ya, Dr. Junger!  Clean Program

I am off to some design meetings (New Black Hog Middletown, MD our 4th one!  So proud of Mike) to the store, take photos and update The Tasting Room site than some kind of cardio ( I think just a walk with me and Abe is all I can muster)  But check back often and I will be doing instastories and I am still working on a youtube channel update.

Peace Out Guys!   Enjoy the week!

FIRST IN MY INTERVIEW SERIES “SPOTLIGHT” JKW BEAUTY’S FOUNDER JORDAN LEWIS

Happy Monday & Happy Spring!  Finally!

This post is my first in a new series of “Interviews”  I will be doing.  Talking with brands, people I love admire and want to share who they are and what they do with you all.  This first Interview is with the lovely Jordan Lewis of. JKW BEAUTYI met Jordan several years ago at a few local events here in historic Frederick, MD.  Some non-profit, some fashion shows and Girls Night Out parties.  She is a wonderful makeup artist so we hit it off right out of the gate.  She and her team did my hair for the Goodwill fashion show a few years back and make up for the sadly now closed Silk and burlap in-house trunk shows.  I recently went and got my first spray tan in years at her intimate makeup studio on Market St.  We chit chatted and caught up for a little bit. We did an email interview because she is under the wire now as Jordan and her husband are expecting their first child in just a few short weeks. (end of May – I think)

Below is her bio & the cute fun little Q & A we did.  I hope you like this and please check out her site.  Her skills are REAL ladies & gents!  I can’t wait to get another spray tan and talk eyelashes – I think a YouTube vlog will be in order after the baby arrives.

JORDAN  LEWIS

“I’m a dreamer- like big, change the world kind of dreams. And, I love to help people. I am a #GIRLBOSS #WIFEY to Q, the sweetest husband that ever existed. Daughter. Oldest Sister to two kid brothers. BFF to a crew of amazing girlfriends. Dog mama to Zeus, a boxer. Obsessed with traveling, learning, and understanding more about the way people think. Super faithful. Can’t live without candles, long lashes, spray tans, and comfy white t-shirts. Fitness and music are my main squeeze to stay balanced.

I received my artistry license from Von Lee International School of Aesthetics. Began my career with ULTA. moving onto training with MAC Cosmetics, and continued my education in the beauty industry receiving training fromTemptuPro,MAC, KISS, NARS, ( NARS on my resume  too)  Calvin Klein,YSL and South Seas Skincare cosmetics. Recruited and mentored by accomplished makeup artist, Danessa Myricks, I had the opportunity to work in the International Cosmoprof expo in Italy at age 20. Three years after my make-up artistry journey began in the retail cosmetics world, Jordan K Winn & Co was born. Approaching their 6th year in beauty business, JK BEAUTY  has emerged and has evolved into one of the most sought after bridal make-up and hair teams in the area. My passion for perfecting my craft has kept myself & the artist team striving to further our education, ensuring we stay in trend with the current styles and beauty technology of today’s ever-changing, fast paced beauty industry”.

Lori Tauraos – Blank Slate:  How long have you had your own business JKW Beauty?

Jordan: JKW beauty is 8 Years Old in June!

LT:  Wow that’s fantastic!  Have you always been interested in beauty?  Were you a girly girl?

JL:  I’ve been interested in beauty since the day I went to training at Avon Lee for makeup artistry, prior to that – I wanted to own a business. My mom has owned franchises of sylvan alongside my family for years, and I always walked into velvet lounge when I was younger saying I wanna do this (now I get to collaborate with April! Goals!!!!). I wasn’t a girly girl. I flat ironed my hair for the first time in 9th grade, prior to that I was a sneaker wearing, tree climbing, Barbie hating little tomboy. When I meant one of my very best friends Melissa Perez, who works with JKW beauty as a senior stylist, she helped me out in the girly girl department – aka I just copied her style.
LT:  What are your 3 MUST HAVE products?
  • Texture HairSpray (current favorite is Paul Mitchell – Undone)
  • Beauty Counter Nude lipgloss in Buff
  • Bronzer – all time favorite is Kevyn Aucoin (

LT:  I love his makeup line – definetely missed in the beauty industry – he was doing contour before contour was cool!

LT:  What is your “Signature Look”
JL: Hair – Undone waves with lots of texture
Makeup – adore glowy skin (all the creamy highlight) aka Armani luminous silk foundation, lots of dark gorgeous lashes (hypnosis drama all time gotta have mascara), a pop of peachy cheek, and bronze glow

LT:  How do you feel about Social Media – selfies?  Food pics?  Duck Lips? (LOL)

JL:   I love the connection social media has for creatives. It has been a major way to stay and get inspired. I also think it has created unrealistic standards for beauty – I want people to use it to get inspired and then get off and live – there is only one you – you don’t need to look like the latest nstagram fad unless it’s your swag or style.

LT:  What is your favorite food or meal?

JL:   Good sushi – lazy fish frederick – haaaayyyyy ya’ll  ! http://www.lazyfishsushi.com

LT:  You look fantastic – What has been your health routine while pregnant?

JL:    Take time for me first. Everything else second. Barre has been everything to me during pregnancy. Staying active is been my sanity.  I do accuppuncture monthly – swear by it. But most of all, taking time to be grateful for my health and this journey by meditating and doing yoga. The mind is powerful tool to look and feel the energy you have inside. A good moisturizer doesn’t hurt – current favorite (since my skin has been the dryest of all time – thanks baby!) is Welda Skin Food.

LT:  How do you feel about aging, plastic surgery?  (Fillers, botox etc.)

JL:  P R E V E N T A T I V E! take time to research what’s out there, find a trusted doctor and go for a consultation. Listen to the experts, tell them what bothers you and take their advice. And good doctors take time to get into and aren’t cheap – don’t get $2 Botox at your girlfriends basement unless she’s a doctor herself.
My feelings are this – if you don’t like something and it literally blows your life away in a way that hurts your self confidence – change it! But learn to love your one of a kind self in the process – no filler or plastic surgery cures the inside “uglies”. With that being said, I’m down for all the fun new stuff in moderation. And flaunt it – don’t you wish all the celebs would be real about all the treatments, fillers and work they get done so we could all know what it really takes to achieve this “beauty”. I do!
I’m particularly excited about fillers, new laser treatments, etc because they are temporary and non invasive – most can be removed and dissolved if you don’t like and need to be maintained so you can change up your look. The new lasers coming out that are in Europe (where all great skin things are born) are unbelievable and are going to make us ladies look ageless.
At the end of the day, my final words are everything is beautiful in moderation. Don’t get crazy!
LT:  What is your dream makeup job?

JL:  My job – I love dealing with regular girls on the best day of their life. I’ve never been one for the celebrity circuit or fashion runaways. I like collaborating with my favorite #GIRLBOSSES in the city I grew up in.  If I could have a job in the industry – it would be creating names for makeup or nail collection – like for real how fun would that be!

LT:  Mine too or Paint colors…… I keep telling Benjamin Moore that “Brussels sprout Green” is the perfect Spring Green – “Call Me Ben”.

LT:  Your biggest life lesson so far?
JL:  When I lost my baby brother 9/9/2016, I realized I was living too far into the future  His passing made me come to terms with the fact we live in a world past the present moment chasing the next big trends or thing, which makes us feel like we’ve never arrived at success.  His physical abssence reminds me that life is short, and the key to believing you have everything is believing that you do.  Sometimes the brightest stars align and guide you in the darkest moment of life, for that I am grateful………

LT:  Awe Im so sorry for your loss – I had no idea.  What a great way to remember him daily by living in the now……I’m sure he watches over you and is very proud.

This was just a small interview I hope you liked it and again please pop over to Jordans site http://www.jkwbeauty.com  make an appointment for makeup lesson, spray tan, or get the perfect updo.  Below some pictures from her bespoke salon and my tanning experience.  I am going again this week – the tan has still lasted –  even with exercise, nightly detox baths and the sauna.  I really did heed her directions by staying VERY moisturized!

SPRING FRONT PORCH

Good Morning,
Looks like Spring is finally here in Maryland (snow flurries this past Monday) but now it seems safe to begin the “front porch” project I mentioned on Insta a few weeks back.  I took everything off my porch – cleaning it – and got a new mat at the door that is it!  Pretty bare looking.  I need to do some touch-up paint and I may paint the front door.  We have been in the house for a little over 4 years and feeling the nesting instinct again.  I am partnering with Creme de la Creme – Frederick to create a front porch vignette.  I may try and do two different versions – my stoop is not very big – I do have a balcony so we may do a combo.  Here is what I am starting with.  I wanna lean towards French / Italian rustic and Creme de la Creme is Perfect for this.  loriannmd, urablankslate, blank slate, decor, spring, frederick md, dmv, shopping, shop local, fresh decor, rustic, spring, downtown frederick, visit frederick md, blankslate, decorating, fashion, tysons corner, middleburg va, richmond va, home improvement

SUNDAY FUNDAY #OOTD & MY FIRST CHANEL

Happy Sunday Gang,

Today was a day that I had waited for but did not think it was going to happen for a while yet.
Still, a chilly Sunday here in the DMV so Mike and I decided to head to Tysons Galleria to check out the new Isabella’s Eatery – Chef Mike Isabella’s grand project.  Very upscale food court.  We are were looking at some new spring cosmetics skincare lines, new workout gear maybe and popping into CHANEL!  Whaaaaat!  A very sweet sales associate and I had been talking for months and I had given her an idea of a bag (I don’t have one in my collection – well didn’t) I wanted something classic but with an edge – not the same black bag everyone else has you know what I mean….. I’m not one who wants exactly what everyone else has. I sent her this picture 6 mths ago as an idea (RUNWAY PEOPLE) So she knew I wanted something classic but edgy.  Like a said I was not to be rushed in this purchase nor was I gonna rush, Mike……… Wink Wink!
Chanel, chanel boy bag, blankslate, urablankslate, dmv, blogger babes, loriannmd, lori tauraso, frederick md, designer, classic, runway, karl laugerfeld, BlankSlateBlog, Instagram, Youtube, Unboxing She texted and had gotten in some new pieces that are limited edition so I said “Oh Mike lets just go look”  I mean one day I will get one and I like to window shop anyway.  Well, let me tell you he really surprised me because today was the day!   I could not believe it.  I squealed like a little girl and gave him the biggest hug.  I even did a little jump!  A few people laughed and one lady said – now that bag that is an iconic runway piece.  I’m still in awe.  I did not get the above-pictured bag even though Michelle had it there for me.  In person, it was too small a mini and I just donated a mini Gucci to Clutch for a Cause part of W2Women mentoring.  Which I was honored to do so I knew a mini bag was not for me anymore.Chanel, chanel boy bag, blankslate, gucci, non profits, urablankslate, dmv, blogger babes, loriannmd, lori tauraso, frederick md, designer, classic, runway, karl laugerfeld, BlankSlateBlog, Instagram, Youtube, UnboxingThis is just something I’ve wanted.  I consider it to be a little piece of wearable art.  I adore all my beautiful bags, shoes, clothing I have collected over the years.  I know I am VERY fortunate and those who know me know I am not braggy I just was like YES BABY!  (Stay tuned for Instagram/ instastores etc.)  Without knowing what was going to be happening I decided to wear my usual high-end casual type of outfit and I was asked several times about it today (#OOTD) by a few of you so I created this board.  I hope you like it and it should make getting the info easier.  I am still in the process of learning the layouts on the site but it is exact to what I wore today.  The perfume is my long time signature.  Also, I have to say the Paige denim jeans on the second grouping (I have 3 pairs) fit like a glove – my newest favorite by far – if you haven’t tried them on yet – trust me you will be in love.  That perfect amount of stretch while retaining the form.  Also, always love my American eagle jeans forever a standard.  Hudson flap back pockets rule they give you an instant butt lift!  Honest!   These SJP shoes are so great – many thought they were Manolo’s but that is to be expected right?  She did collaborate with him.  Who doesn’t miss Sex and The City?  Anyway was so excited I was able to buy them at MGM National Harbor Flagship SJP Store!

I have some of these jeans below and whats great high-end or low they last and look and feel so good.  I adore pairing my jeans, t-shirts or casual top with high-end accessories.  That is really my everyday style ( well except for my yoga pant days…… which I’m trying to do only on days I workout – Ha Ha who’s with me?

I mean I have some “fancy dresses” but let’s be honest that is not my life and I’m glad.  I need to be comfy and try and look good doing it.  I may even get my nails done this week.  If you’ve been following along you know I have taken this year to really “edit” my closet and “things” I have quality over quantity.  I’m getting there still a work in progress and this week I’ll be tackling my office – AGAIN.  As far as CHANEL………………… darlings you will have to check back for the Unboxing- I’ve been doing little videos for myself and the restaurants so I think I’ll make one.  So it will be up this week.  If you go to Chanel in Tysons Corner, VA ask for Michelle Kennedy she is the best!  Her manager Brianna was lovely as well.  Not an everyday thing for me a very special piece.  I’m happy, grateful and will cherish it forever!Chanel, chanel boy bag, blankslate, urablankslate, dmv, blogger babes, YOUTUBE, loriannmd, lori tauraso, frederick md, designer, classic, runway, karl laugerfeld, BlankSlateBlog, Instagram, Youtube, Unboxing

Again, happy Sunday everyone!  I know it was a surprisingly happy one for me and I wish the same for all of you as always.

Still working on the DIY home cleaners and the video will be up soon.

SIDE NOTE WEIRD THINGS WITH INSTAGRAM & WORDPRESS FIXING SOON – MY SLIDESHOW AND LINK WILL BE UP ASAP!  THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO ASKED AND LET ME KNOW IT WAS NOT THERE.

SPRING SPRING WHERE ARE YOU

HAPPY MONDAY,

I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday – ours was nice and quiet here in the DMV – still gloomy outside so I thought I’d create a spring fashion board on my Polyvore site.  Lately, technology has been betraying me and tons of time resetting things etc. so frustrating!   Bear with me.  Here is  LINK FOR POLYVORE! and all my goodies I’m looking into.

Enjoy your week and do something nice for yourself.  Happy surfing………

BTW – I am excited over 2 new posts that are in the works – one is a front porch decor/collaboration with Creme de la Creme 207 N. Market St. Frederick, MD

The other is “The Organically Clean Home”  I’ve been making all my cleaning products – so much healthier (recently found I have asthma) and saves loads of money!  I am excited for you to come along.  I have to find all the jars etc…. so it will be coming up just in time for Spring cleaning!

PHILLY PART 2 I’M IN LOVE WITH MORIMOTO & PICS FROM THE FLOWER SHOW

Philly in 24 Part Two,

This 24 hour trip to Philadelphia was like a food lovers dream.  After the drive up, bellying up to the Tommy DiNic’s bar for a roast pork – brisk walk around the city  (freezing thank you very much March winds were blowing) a little r&r in our suite at the Ritz we rallied up and got ready for dinner.   Now to start you should know that this restaurant has been on my bucket list for years!  I have admired and wanted to dine at Iron Chef Morimoto’s Japanse restaurant since the day I saw him on TV and knew he was only a few hours away.  I can’t believe it took me so long to get here ……….

Surprisingly, Mike called Thursday afternoon and was able to snag a 7 pm reso…….!  Huh?  How is this possible I asked?  “We have to eat at the small sushi bar in the back,” he said.  Apparently not the “hot spot”.  “I am fine with that,” I said.  Note to you all it turned out to be the best seat in the house.  A little crowded & busy by the kitchen door also a little chilly since the restaurant is long like an alley and the vent fans pull hard from the kitchen.  Below is my view and I would not change a thing.

Here is the Tofu that is made table side – how cool right – I only had a bit or two – way too many other things to eat.  Not bad though – 10 points for cleverness and presentation.

The Whitefish Carpaccio was off the charts delicious.  It was lush, delicate, flavorful a piece of heaven on a plate for sure.  I would get this every time.   I will get this every time!

BELOW Tuna = Maguro Perfection!  Nothing else needed the fresh ginger just a thin piece a dash of wasabi and a small dip in the soy – BTW the soy sauce at the bar best ever, not the same old same of Kikkoman here!

I also ate (sadly not pictured here) the Toro or the fatty tuna.  I had never had that before and I am so glad I waited to have it here!  Seriously, people, it was like nothing I’ve ever eaten.  Not fishy in the least – melted on my tongue like butter.  The tuna over warm sushi rice nothing else just a drop of soy sauce.  PERFECT!  I am spoiled I will never have sushi again without having this as the bar!  In fact, won’t be going anywhere local I mean so what is 2 hours or so for the best of something you’ve ever had!  Then the sushi chef asked if he could make me something (a major *perk to sitting at the sushi bar) and I was like YEAH!!!!!!!! YES – HAI!  He then torched the Toro so the fat melted and created a thin crust on top.  I mean baby you have me now!  I proceeded to order 6 more pieces (Yes 6 don’t judge me) of Toro the regular un torched and was in heaven.   See below snippet of the menu.  The full menu and website is HERE

I did not realize the cost per piece $16.00 each but it was worth and I WILL DO IT AGAIN!

I did not get pictures because I was enjoying all of it so much!  HAHA I mean it was that good and even I  did not want to grab my camera.  That is saying something my friends.   Next Mike went for it and got the Wagyu beef.  Tender, moist, rare all that we had ever heard of Wagyu – it did not disappoint.  I was still in heaven over the Toro and only ate a bite of the beef.   Morimoto offers a great drink selection as well.  Mike had a Martini and I had a ginger mocktail you see for me and Mike agreed later some food is so good you don’t want to fill up on alcohol or a cocktail just doesn’t go.  Like when we have Peking Duck no drinks there only water and tea.  I don’t know maybe for some folks its different I’m sure.  I mean they did have a cool sake flight our neighbors at the bar enjoyed.   However, for me I needed to save all the room in my belly for food and I got quite a buzz from the tuna!

Now dessert the sushi chef suggested the “firey chocolate tart” and told me to get my camera out which I did right away.  The tart was a decadent chocolate salted caramel ganache, with chocolate sorbet, marshmallow, and almond. CLICK HERE FOR LITTLE DESSERT VIDEO

This is what is left – maybe I did have more than one little bite.  I have to say this was the best Japanese Sushi meal I/we have ever had.  I can’t wait to go back and take the kids.  They have all grown up to be quite the “foodie” themselves.

After that, I poured myself into a lovely hot bath at the Ritz and slept like a baby.  Waking Sunday morning to full sunshine and coffee in the room we got ready for the day and headed to the convention center and the Philadelphia Flower Show.  I had been to this event years ago so I was really looking forward to it.  The entrance was a typical hotel large convention space with lots of people selling all sorts of things but when we entered the doors it was as if we were transported.

I mean the epitome of a garden party here right?  I love the hanging vines and globes

Or what if you had an outdoor forest theme wedding to the right is the little chapel ….

I really liked all the details in the train city below.

This sparked ideas for the front of The Tasting Room or my patio

A cute beach houses front entrance using the oyster shells as a walkway – really clever!

I just couldn’t stop looking at the cactus display almost seemed as if it was in outer space.

This is just perfect for me.  I am a big fan of formal architectural gardens.  Lots of symmetry, pathways, statues etc…. if you have space.

We did hit DiNics again for brunch and as we walked back to the hotel gearing up to leave Philly was having its Saint Patricks Day Parade a week early here and I ran into this fella.Pretty funny and a great ending to our little weekend getaway.  The diet starts Monday!

Cheers & Happy Travels

COME ALONG WITH ME FOR 24 HOURS – HEADING TO PHILADELPHIA

Happy Monday,

Spur of the moment is sometimes a great thing.  On Friday we decided to take a trip to Philadelphia for 24hrs or so.  I wanted to see the Philadelphia Flower and Garden Show – was

on

the last days – it ended yesterday March 11th. I was looking for some touchstones of Spring people – been a long cold winter around here.  I could use some good food so Tommy Dinics @ Reading Terminal was on the list and the famous MORIMOTO restaurant for sushi.  #bucketlist  I have wanted to go here for years!  I adore Chef Morimoto and heard only great things.

So Mike was like yes, and I was like ok!  “ON IT” Get Abe a babysitter, done.  Now off to www.marriott.com/rewards to see if we had enough points to use and by golly we did.  Ritz Carlton Philadelphia people  Located right in the heart of Philly near City Hall, Reading Terminal – aka DiNic’s home, the convention center and just 9 blocks from Morimoto!  Yeah!  #arigatogozaimashita = thank you in Japanese

Mike got us a reservation at 7 pm on Saturday night!  What?  How you may ask – well we accepted to be at the sushi bar.  Not a comfy they said etc… not in the heart of the restaurant and by the kitchen.  Well, baby put me here.  (more on Morimoto later).

So Saturday morning we dropped the “Abester” off tidy’ed up the house, did a few errands and off to Philly we went.  It only took 2hours and 10 minutes.  Why has it been so long Philly?  Why?  More importantly, where have you been Tommy Dinic’s?  We arrive at the Ritz, valet the car cause no one wants to drive in Philly major construction fixing potholes, road work and new building everywhere – plus if not frigid we’ll walk a bit.  A small bit.  We checked in to the old historic bank building which became a coin exchange to become Mellon bank than in 2001 the Ritz acquired the spot.  The lobby is lovely huge while marble columns, floors and the center round bar towards the back of the lobby with an adjacent full-service restaurant.  I was told this is the place to have your wedding in Philly and by the look of it, there must have been 2 going on when we arrived.  They have a full-service spa, steam room, and great fitness room.  They upgraded us for using our Marriott points and number (thank you sir!) however our first room had an odor that with my new asthma diagnosis was not gonna fly so in a cool minute we were taken to an even larger suite on the club level ( no club privilege but NP for  us)  The room was huge.  Living room, dining table foyer bathroom, washer dryer, mini bar, coffee, separate closed off bedroom with its own TV large bathroom soaking tub (a must for me) and oversized windows.  They were everywhere and we got to watch the stunning Philly skyline.  We could see the planes land in the distance pretty cool.  Here is the main lobby.  The picture below is not mine – unless noted all photos are mine.  I found this one on google to really show the beauty and grandeur – I believe this is taken from the balcony above the front street entrance.

Here is a link provided by Ritz Carlton on a more in-depth history of the grand building.  http://www.ritzcarlton.com/en/hotels/philadelphia/hotel-overview/hotel-history

Needless to say, I love our room look at these floors and how the room just goes on and on.ritz carlton, ritz philadelphia, loriannmd, urablankslate, google, traveler, reviews, blogger, dmv, philly, day trip,

TAURASO CHICKEN CURRY #TaurasoFoodGroup

Hello, My Friends,

Finally as promised our Tauraso Family Chicken Curry.  Do you like Indian Food & Curries?  I know I sure do!  More and more these days and not just for the amazing flavors but for the health benefits.  Many of the spices used to make curries are known anti-inflammatories.  So in this house that is a win-win.  Below is our family curry recipe.  Mike and I worked on several different variations until finally, I think we hit the mark.  #marriedtoachef.  I hope you go out of your comfort zone and try this out or share how you prepare your curry dishes.  #alwayswillingtotrysomethingnew ( almost always – lol)

Tomato Mix

  • 1/2 can curshed tomatoes

  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro rough chopped

Instructions

  1. Put oil or ghee in heavy bottomed Dutch Oven or braising pan.  Bring to med-high heat and brown chicken breast pieces.  Remove from pan when they have a nice color - see photo - set aside.

  2. Add the Herb Mix to the pan and cook for about 30 seconds.  scraping the bottom of the pot vigorously.  Add the Spice Mix and cook for another 30 seconds.  Add the pureed onion /ginger/ chiles and cook for about 5 minutes scraping the bottom of the pan every so often.  Add the Tomato mix and water.  Incorporate well and cook for about 8-1 minutes.  Add your chicken breast back to pan ( plate juices as well) then cook until tender.  About 10 more minutes.  When it is finished add your fresh cilantro and enjoy!

Recipe Notes

We like to serve this over a bed of Basmati Rice and warm Nann topped with yummy Raita, an Indian yogurt sauce.  Raita simple to make use 1/2 cup yogurt, thinly sliced carrot, and grated cucumber.   S&P to taste mix and chill add to your dinner and dip your Nann in it!  Try and tell me that's not a little piece of heaven on a plate.

I hope you try it out and let me know how it goes by commenting below also tell me what else you want to see food/cooking-wise!

Cheers,
