Summer is officially here!
This means I get my fruit on baby! I try and stay hydrated buy H2O can be soooooo boring. Here is a way to jazz up your water with not too much sugar. These can also serve as fantastic cocktails if you choose to make them boozy………
This refreshing drink is served by roadside vendors all over Mexico. I noticed them online a few years back I was like what is this “agua fresca? I have to have one”! It is known to have not too much fruit, not too much sugar, just a beautiful way to quench your thirst on a summer day. Here is a simple drink to whip up and have on hand. I like mine in a wine glass with a cute straw to up the fancy appeal.
SUMMER WATERMELON AGUA FRESCA
FRESH QUICK EASY SUMMER DRINK TO HAVE ON HAND - WITH OR WITHOUT ALCOHOL
- 8 cups cubed seeded watermelon
- 1/4 cup lime juice
- 1 cup water divided in to 1/2 cups
- 1/3 cup sugar divided
- 4 cups Club soda 1 liter chilled
- lime slices for garnish

Combine half the watermelon, half the water and half the sugar in a blender; puree. Pour through a coarse strainer into a large container. Repeat with the remaining watermelon, water and sugar. Stir in lime juice. Refrigerate until well chilled, about 4 hours. To serve, stir in club soda (or seltzer) and garnish with lime.
Make Ahead Tip: Prepare through Step 1, cover and refrigerate for up to 2 days.
Gluten-Free, Low Fat, and Vegetarian: moderate the sugar to your taste or diet restrictions. Mike is type 2 diabetic so I forgo lots of added sugar than add more accordingly. You could try other sweeteners too just do sample batch before any parties or for guests.

Grapefruit Agua Fresca
This is another one of my favorites
- 2 cups purified water
- 1 cup sugar whatever kind you choose I always opt for less sugar
- 4 large red grapefruit (my fav) juiced
- 1 whole lime juiced
In a small pot, combine the water and sugar. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally, then remove from heat and let cool. Basically a simple syrup
After the sugar-water mixture has cooled completely, combine all ingredients in a blender and stir to combine.
Chill until cold, then serve on ice.
I love to put in drink shaker over ice and pour in wine or rocks glass...... Its just my thing I love great glassware and stemware even if not alcohol

You can also add something cool & healthy to your plain lemon water or Agua Fresca Chia Seeds! This makes more filling and gives you added protein.
Chia seeds are a highly nutritious “superfood” that contain fiber, protein, and Omega-3 fats, which are all very healthy to consume. When you make Chia Fresca, the fresh chia seeds become gelatinous as they soak in the liquid. You can add chia seeds to any agua fresca, simply sprinkle a scant teaspoon of them into the drink, and wait for 5 to 10 minutes. Add ice, stir, and enjoy.
Perfect for a hot day out on the patio or to kill the plain water boredom we all get from time to time.
