Are you getting your beauty sleep? Do not dismiss the significant effect sleep has on your looks and overall health. We do not call it beauty sleep for anything.
I have in the last several years had some bouts with insomnia. tossing and turning, up at 1:23 am until 4:45 than at 5;30 the dogs and or birds wake me for the day. Uggggg and what to do in the wee hours? You try and stay quiet, tiptoe around as not to wake the whole house. I am not that awake to do any real work and I fall down the rabbit hole of Netflix and infomercials
- yawning.
- moodiness.
- fatigue.
- irritability.
- depressed mood.
- difficulty learning new concepts.
- forgetfulness.
- inability to concentrate or a “fuzzy” head.
- overeating or reaching for sugary foods in the afternoon
- Fender benders or worse car accidents – driting into others lanes almost “sleep-driving”
So lets set ourselves up to get a good nights sleep
Now I know they say no electronics in the bedroom – ok I turn my phone to silent and only emergency numbers can get through. However, the TV in the bedroom is not going anywhere. Mike and I both use it to fall asleep. I will say that what you watch can be helpful. Lately to promote sleep (other than reading a history book) we watch the Smithsonian channel or the history channel. Nothing too jarring and the documentary voices are great. For some weird reason 10min after we put on Air Disasters we are both sleeping. I dunno? Disclaimer – do NOT watch AD before a trip – just bad juju.
A hot or warm bath or shower. You know me I am all about the bath at night. Making it a special ritual – to shift your body and brain to “bedtime” winding down. I love to treat my self with luxury bathtime products
One of my long time favorites is Laura Mercier Creme Brulee Honey Bath. It is mostly no accident I am drawn to this exotic sexy yummy scent. Pulling from my love of sweets and cooking side. I also like to be very simple and add Epsom salt, a must for me. Always – period. It’s health benefits are endless I even create little foot soaks for Mike when he is tired, run-down or in need of some TLC and bath time would not be complete without good bubbles at least one time a week. Mr. Bubble old school is best for real bubbles I now use the unscented color and fragrance-free version because I get sensitive to the original one.
I also love an atomizer with lavender in it. Superpringly Mike loves that scent too – go figure. Now, dimming all the lights or lighting candles is even better like you see me do above works wonders too. Getting your whole space in the quiet zone.
Taking the time to do a few small little gestures goes a long way I find in shutting your mind off. Remember to close drapes and blinds too keeping street lights and the moonlight out. If you are fortunate enough to have blackout drapes – use them. No big snacks either. Maybe just fruit or Mike will eat peanut butter toast and I enjoy sleepytime or un-caffeinated tea. Here is a link to foods that are supposed to help promote a good night’s rest. HERE
Not getting enough or good sleep has obvious effects but the long term can cause weight gain, poor work performance, trouble at work and sometimes falling asleep at the wheel even if for only a second. Is so dangerous.!
How do you wind down? What are your nightly bedtime rituals do you even have any?
I cannot wait to get into the new house – my bathroom – my ensuite, as they say, is going to be spectacular below are some of my favorites.
Above is from Athena Calderone’s blog and her bathroom of dreams – I mean a fireplace by the bath……. heaven!
Above is something I found on google and loving the vanity and this stunning natural stone and veins just screams old world bath and calm to me.
The simple clean white bathroom the window and skyline are just perfect and look at the faucet too….. dreamy.
this is a look from Kohler and I love the soft calamine pink and trim and very traditional feel to it.
Again the light – the white room, window, clean natural elements wood floors ( bold choice in a bathroom) marble tub surround glass shower right next store if you like watching and or being watched.
Pink, marble, flowers, opulence at its finest…… I don’t know where this is but I’d say I could get very comfortable right there. Just add champagne baby!
I hope you get to enjoy your night time wind down & tell which is your favorite bath and what you are going to incorporate into your evening. Then shut out the world and have sweet dreams!
