10 Things That Make Me Happy

Hello All,

I wanted to share with you 10 things that are making me happy. We all could use more happiness in our lives.  Focus on Positive.  Comment below and tell me some things that make you happy right now.

Number 1 – These subway tiles from Cle Tile in CA.  I am so in love with them.  I will be using them on my backsplash!  Yes, you heard right I will be using them on my backsplash.  I am gaga over the artistic handmade finish and the thickness as well.  Just stunning and this sea salt color just the perfect white for our dream home.

I also encourage you to always order a sample before making your decision – esp if it is sight unseen.  I recently just received my tile and cabinet door in the bright green and how do i say – NO.  Back to the drawing board.  Plus it is good to see on-site and to use when creating the mood board for the vibe of the rest of the space.

2.  TRIM AND MOLDING: Inside – outside – up the stairs in the hall in the office bath, etc…… You can paint it opposite colors or all the same to give an elegant elevated vibe.  See pics below and this is just the tip of the iceberg.  There are also companies that make glue on kits.  Easy for the Harry or Harriet Homeowner to do a weekend. DIY.

Number 3.  Wallpaper  I just love how wallpaper can completely change a room with millions of choices.  Right now I am researching some historic papers that have been revised just enlarging the whole print.  I love this Schumacher print…… don’t you?  This is going in my powder room at Dry Run.  I use Lydia with Patrick St. Interiors for my wallpaper sourcing.  If you see a paper send her a photo she and her team will jump on it and so far after 10 plus years she has not let me down.  Here is the Schumacher paper I fell for on Instagram.

Number 10.  My family, my pups, friends and this includes YOU

Go do something to make yourself and someone else happy!  Life is short, enjoy it.  The world needs HAPPY.  Stay tuned we are moving in the cottage ready or not tomorrow and tons of videos, Insat stories, and updates on our custom house, Abe LInky, and Mike and I.  It’s gonna be a ride for sure….. what kind I don’t know but it worth a watch I know that.

Classic No-Trend Home Trends of 2021

Hello, Lovelies,

I think I see Spring in the not too distant future only 3 weeks away.

So, that means our custom new home build on the farm is moving along.  It really was a blessing that some things took longer and we shifted gears and became our own General Contractors because I have really honed in on how I want the house to look and feel.  Today I am sharing a little of what I am choosing for the house the colors, tiles, cabinets, pantry, and master en suite color scheme and I think is really trending across the board.  It’s the classic no-trend home trend of 2021.  I call my style EUROPEAN COUNTRY.  Which to me means it has good solid bones not too splashy and not what everyone else is doing.  With that being said a few of the moment things will definitely be in my design decor.  Esp. the part about being close to the land and nature.

Elements:

White oak, I was inspired by the white French oak from Pinterest or what I see in books in historic European homes.  It is rustic and gives an old-world charm to a home without weighing it down.  white oak flooring, sherwin williams paint, trends 2021, french white oak wood floor, home renovation, lori tauraso, smokehouse properties, urablankslate, dry run ranch,

Paint – we are finally moving away from gray.  Thank goodness.  I have loved you Dorain Gray by SW but time to move on.  I’m not saying it will be cream or beige but think more alabaster, chalk bone color.  I prefer to give the whole main living spaces / common area the same paint color so it needs to play well with others.  However, I will be breaking up sometimes with wallpaper and designating the areas with lighting and furniture, rugs, and the like.  My chosen color is…….. Marshmellow by Sherwin Williams.  It is a chalky white with the slightest I mean the slightest dab of pink.  It is a flattering color I will be painting everything that color the walls, baseboards trim, and ceiling.  All a wash of color.  It gives a very clean flowy look and even a bit modern in a soft way.  The color envelopes you.  I will be using a flat color.  Even the trim base will be flat/ matte.  It’s so chic and streamlined.sherwin williams marshmallow, marshmallow, flat white, design trends 2021, color of the decade, lori tauraso, dry run ranch, loriannmd, mike tauraso, smokehouse properties, smithsburg md, ferguson showroom, build.com, lori tauraso youtube, design insporation, sw paint, farrow and ball, hgtv, jeff lewis, kelly wearstler,

Try it out and you will see for yourself why I fell in love – wait till you see how well it pairs with my tiles for the master bath and the wallpaper as well as custom furniture I’m getting for the master bedroom.  Que the angles.  You just have to wait until all my sample swatches come in…. but it’s worth it.  Btw guys always ck my insta and my insta stories for updates I post there all the time.  @LORIANNMD HERE

Tiles – Oh Yes.  I’m loving all the new tiles eps. handmade-looking tiles, matte paint, matte tiles, matte hardware sprinkled throughout.  Calming colors. Again for the main areas I am going with rustic matte white but just wait for the butler’s pantry you guys….. anyway here is the master bathroom wall – will be set “solider course or in vertical pattern floor to ceiling.

People sometimes hesitate to do a bold color or print in a small space but it is THE BEST!  I will have a french door so the green will always pop through a little bit but will not dictate my home color scheme.  I won’t tire of it during seasonal changes because she’ll be off to the side just glowing and just doing her pretty little thing.  Oh yeah, open shelves, baskets, gold hardware, and a mini white farm sink below a window!!!!!!!!! I actually have to give credit to House and Home build your dream in Colorado the kitchen pantry for the push to go with my thoughts for BOLD in this space. Watch It Here…  BTW the powder room will be black and white with a concrete sink (custom made but one of our neighbors Steve Eyler like this one pictured here for inspiration but the faucet will be mounted on the sink, not the wall.

Finally, a sneak peek of the master suite, bedroom, bath, and my dressing room/closet… wallpaper, substantial trim, neutral natural colors, tones, calming, and very “timeless” type of feel.   That really is the best trend of 2021 – the classic no-trend design. elle decor, eye swoon, lori tauraso, dry run, tauraso, mike tauraso, dmv design, dc design center, blank slate studio, urablankslate, sass magazine, dc modern luxury, dynamic women, dc bloggers, maryland style, schumacher, patrick street interiors, mitchell gold bob williams, tysons galleria,

A BOWL FULL OF LOVE… CHICKEN TORTILLA SOUP

Guys do you know what you are looking at here?  Not just some delicious Tortilla Chicken Soup but you are looking at a bowl full of love.  My hubby knows me well and Sat. I started to feel really low energy and by Sunday I was cooked so he ran out to the store for Super Bowl goodies – chips dip, stuff for buffalo wings, smoked sausage, and all the things to make homemade soup for me!  I can eat soup almost every day of the week.  We both love it and don’t skimp on the ingredients.  In this recipe, he used some quick chicken stock (easy to make really – but use a low sodium version if you need or prefer store-bought and then began the slow process of making a favorite of mine.  All the flavors come together so nice!  You need the tang of the lime, with the green onion and cilantro as well as the crushed chips on top and do NOT forget the avocado for that creamy filling bonus.  Follow this recipe and make it for someone you love or for just you.  It tastes better the second day and I have been known to have it for breakfast too like I did today.  Bon appetite!

Best At-Home Face Peels for Smoother, Brighter Skin, According to Dermatologists

HAPPY NEW YEAR MY FRIENDS,

Since we are still on lockdown and the world is in flux, to say the least, a bit of self-care at home seems still the top of things we can do.  I love prevention magazine and its website.  I find their articles and advice to be right on target and not too biased.  Below is a recent article from October I loved and wanted to share.  Tell me your favorites and which you have tried in the past.  Stay tuned for a luxury Dior post and youtube video along with an update on the farm and our house build.  Sending nothing but love out to you all.  xoxo Lori

14 Best At-Home Face Peels for Smoother, Brighter Skin, According to Dermatologists

You don’t need a pro treatment for dramatic results.

best at home peel
COURTESY OF BRANDS

If you’re curious about trying a face peel, it isn’t as scary as it sounds. These skin-smoothing products are often a liquid or cream (in mask, serum, or face pad form) that contain exfoliating ingredients—and the results can be pretty impressive.

“By removing the top layers of the skin, peels can treat conditions like acne, hyperpigmentation, melasma, wrinkles, and improve skin’s texture and luminosity,” says Channa Ovits, M.D., a dermatologist at Westmed Medical Group in Westchester, NY.

Peels are typically made with a mix of acids, including alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs, like glycoliclactic, or malic acids), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs, like salicylic and citric acids), and even fruit acids (like apple or pumpkin). “These ingredients work by dissolving the bonds between the skin cells,” Dr. Ovits explains. They may also contain ingredients that stimulate cell renewal, like vitamin C or retinol, adds Cyndi Yag-Howard, M.D., president and CEO of Yag-Howard Dermatology Center in Naples, FL.

You can get a professional peel at a dermatologist’s office, which will penetrate deeper into the skin, says Dr. Yag-Howard. That makes them more effective, but also comes with potential side effects like redness or downtime due to actual skin peeling.

But since these treatments can get expensive, an at-home peel is a solid alternative (and gentler in nature). “There are so many great benefits to these at-home peels. It may take trial and error between milder products and ones that are more aggressive to find the right one for you,” says Dr. Yag-Howard.

How to choose and use the best at-home face peel

Mind your reaction: If your skin is sensitive or you have a condition like rosacea, you can still use a peel, but consider speaking with your dermatologist about what might be right for your complexion, skin concerns, and goals.

Look for products that are specifically formulated for sensitive skin, which will use soothing ingredients and gentler acids, says Dr. Ovits. You may want to look for fruit enzymes as the active ingredient and hydrators to buffer dryness, like hyaluronic acid. You can expect some tingling—that’s okay. But if the peel starts to burn, take it off, says Dr. Ovits. That’s not a normal reaction or a sign that it’s “working.”

Apply at night: Follow the instructions on the product, as this will tell you how often to use the specific peel for optimal benefits and a reduced risk of side effects like dryness.

Peels that are suited for daily use are generally milder than those designed for weekly use, says Dr. Yag-Howard. What’s more, you’ll have to decide how this step fits into your schedule. It might be easier if you save a peel for self-care Sunday versus rushing through it. Because peels can make your skin more sun-sensitive, apply them at night and use SPF the next day (as you should be doing already).

Scan the label: A great at-home peel will include some combination of the acids mentioned above, but look for supporting ingredients in the formula, too. For example, you might choose vitamin C or green tea for protective antioxidants that brighten, ceramides to help retain moisture, or peptides to help build collagen for bouncier skin.

Not sure where to start? Here are the best at-home face peels that will make a real difference in your complexion.

BEST OVERALL

Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel

SEPHORA

Dr. Dennis Gross SkincareDermstore

$88.00

This peel comes with individually wrapped pads, with two in each set. One is saturated with AHAs like glycolic, malic, and lactic acids, plus salicylic acid to defend against dullness, blotchiness, and acne. The second wipe contains retinol and resveratrol (an antioxidant) to encourage collagen production and guard against aging free radical damage. The results? Smaller pores, a smoother complexion, and a boost in radiance.

2

BEST VALUE

AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution

SEPHORA

The OrdinaryUlta Beauty

$7.20

For such a budget-friendly buy, this serum-style peel really packs a punch with a blend of glycolic, lactic, and salicylic acids to smooth and brighten the skin. “When used once or twice weekly, this peel gives a nice, even glow at a very reasonable price point,” says Dr. Ovits. It wins universal rave reviews for making skin look like it’s under a real-life Instagram filter.

RAVE REVIEWS

FIRMx Exfoliating Peel Gel

SEPHORA

Peter Thomas RothDermstore

$48.00

Keratinase enzymes help break down the bonds between skin cells, while fruit enzymes from pomegranate and pineapple deftly remove them. But the treatment doesn’t stop there: After your fresh face is revealed, glycerin and hyaluronic acid (both humectants that attract water) trap in moisture to plump and hydrate. “I SWEAR by this stuff, and you’ll honestly feel like you have a whole new face afterwards!” one reviewer raved. “The tiniest, pea-sized drop targets every morsel of dead skin on your face in the most gentle, non-abrasive manner.”

4T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial 25% AHA + 2% BHA Mask

SEPHORA

Drunk Elephantamazon.com

$80.00

This cult-favorite mask has garnered devout followers who “can’t live without it” because this peel delivers. There is a 25% blend of AHAs, making it one of the more potent at-home peels around. Reviewers are into this for delivering near-flawless skin that rivals a dermatologist peel. Just note it can be harsher on sensitive faces, so test the product first before using it for the first time (and start with just a few minutes, not the full 20).

5Retinol Correxion Max Wrinkle Resurfacing System

AMAZON

RoCamazon.com

$28.99

Retinol is the highlight in the first step of this peel, an ingredient that promotes skin cell turnover to combat fine lines and wrinkles. The second step is a resurfacing serum that helps fight dull, uneven skin. Reviewers are overwhelmingly blown away by how effective the system is (which can be used daily), especially for mature skin that can be drier and more sensitive to retinoids.

6The Microdelivery Vitamin C Resurfacing Peel

SEPHORA

philosophyUlta Beauty

$72.00

For when you want to bring the spa home to you, this peel asks you to take two steps for even more radiant results. The first is using the vitamin C/peptide resurfacing crystals for a mask-like treatment. Then, finish up with the lactic and salicylic acid activating gel, which creates a warm foam. The result? Instantly softened skin.

7Facial Radiance AHA Intensive Peel

DERMSTORE

First Aid BeautyMacy’s

$32.00

This gentle peel utilizes lactic and salicylic acids to exfoliate, clear pores, and brighten skin. Kaolin clay sops up excess oil, while jojoba and green tea hydrate and soothe. Great for sensitive skin, this peel doesn’t cause any stinging or redness, and leaves the face feeling calm and smooth.

8AlphaRet Exfoliating Peel Pads

SKINBETTER

SkinBetterskinbetter.com

$95.00

“These pads with glycolic, lactic and salicylic acid are my favorite chemical exfoliants for brighter, more even skin tone,” Shari Marchbein, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist at Downtown Dermatology in New York City. “These are great for improving hyperpigmentation of the skin, minimizing the appearance of pores, and giving the skin a gentle exfoliation for glowing hydrated skin. I use once weekly at night and be sure to moisturize over top, and then use SPF in the morning.”

9Liquid ExfoliKate Triple Acid Resurfacing Treatment

NORDSTROM

KATE SOMERVILLESephora

$58.00

Enriched with 10% AHAs and fruit enzymes, this leave-on peel acts more like a facial treatment, gently exfoliating, busting through build-up, and improving skin texture. “It does a great job of clearing out blocked pores with regular use and does not dry out skin,” one happy reviewer wrote. “I love that it is alcohol-free, so it won’t dry out or irritate my skin. It dries quickly and does not leave a sticky residue, so you can easily layer serum and moisturizer on top.”

10Green Apple Peel Full Strength

DERMSTORE

Juice BeautyDermstore

$48.00

AHAs and BHAs join forces with vitamins A, C, and E to fortify skin, promote collagen formation, and boost moisture, while aloe nourishes and soothes. Reviewers love that it can be used frequently, does not irritate the skin, and gives overnight results.

11Apple Cider Vinegar Acid Peel

SEPHORA

The INKEY ListSephora

$14.99

The 10% glycolic acid is the main player that sloughs off tired cells in this peel. It’s supported by fruit acid (another exfoliator) and apple cider vinegar to target and prevent blemishes. Folks with sensitive skin really stand by this peel and say it doesn’t cause stinging.

12Clinical Grade Resurfacing Liquid Peel

SEPHORA

Dr. Dennis Gross SkincareDermstore

$95.00

Along with lactic and glycolic acids, you’ll also find the pineapple-derived enzyme bromelain in step 1 of this two-step peel that’s designed to be used up to three times per week. Whereas step 1 exfoliates, step two calms things down with antioxidants, including tiger grass and green tea. Bonus: It’s suited for a range of skin types from dry to oily (and in between).

13Yam and Pumpkin Enzyme Peel

DERMSTORE

EminenceEminence Organic Skincare

$46.00

Pumpkin, pineapple, and papaya work with glycolic and lactic acids to slough off cells while nourishing the fresh, healthy skin underneath. The benefit of a pumpkin and yam enzyme peel is that it not only boosts radiance, but it also provides antioxidant beta-carotene (from the squash’s orange hue!) that fortifies your complexion’s defenses. Hyaluronic acid prevents moisture loss to keep skin plump and hydrated.

14Get Even Cold-Pressed Peel Pads

SEPHORA

Naturally SeriousSephora

$29.00

The set of 60 pads delivers two months of daily treatments to maintain a brighter complexion. Pomegranate enzyme lifts off dead cells, while fatty acids rehydrate. The best part about this peel is that you can swipe over skin without needing to rinse after, so you could keep these by your bedside table for an in-bed treatment to exfoliate and moisturize before you hit the hay.

Tell me which ones you have tried….. I have tried over half of these in the past couple years – my top are the hanicure and beauty counter along with Dr. Dennis Gross.
